Who uses muzzle brakes on their SKS??

I ordered one of the new Witt Machine SKS brakes, since I was getting one for my Mosin anyways. Not really necessary but I always love having excuses for spending money.

You are gonna have to let us know how these perform. I was interested in their Mosin brake if I can't find something else thats decent for cheaper.

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with, of course I won't be able to have one delivered to NZ but it is always interesting to see what is available overseas. If not for the cost, I would go with one of these:

As is I am getting the Tapco slash cut muzzle brake. It is only $55NZ so ties in nicely (for me) with the overall low cost of my Para SKS.

I am pretty sure you will like what we produce, and I am not sure why it cannot be shipped to New Zealand ...

The ideal brake would have to not look obnoxious, be incredibly secure, yet at the same time incredibly painless to remove for the necessary cleaning it requires.

So far, the Tapco Slotted Muzzle Brake fits these criteria (I wrongly called it a "Slash Cut" in my last post). As far a getting a Mag Wedge brake, if you guys have an export license then I'm buyin'! As long as it won't be cost prohibitive of course.

Those are for a threaded AK barrel though. An SKS non threaded brake would be ideal.

Oh yeah, but for the mass market, that isn't always a feasible option or desire.

While I can't comment on Canada, having you rifle barrel threaded is pretty standard over here in NZ. Bolt on options will always be a pain in the arse compared to a simple screw on option? I haven't seen anything (yet) that beats the old screw on option (for simplicity and ease of cleaning).

Yeah threads are best so far, but I'm not personally go to permanently alter the barrel for a brake that has little function on this rifle and which I'll likely just remove all together eventually.

Little function? Right.......so you don't like muzzle brakes. Understood.

Have you been following the whole thread? I have them and use them. Purely aesthetic for my SKS needs. I haven't found them to improve any other aspect of this carbine.

Asides from........reducing recoil! Sorry, I forgot about your aesthetic leanings.
If anything, they make the shots louder. That's about it. A muzzle brake is far more effective on a larger caliber rifle for recoil and muzzle lift reduction.

This video shows the dramatic effect of several different muzzle brakes. While I will grant you that the SKS does not have a huge amount of recoil- it still has recoil and reducing recoil is widely considered to be a positive. There is the trade off of louder muzzle blast, but for the mass market who love shooting, this is a desirable and feasible option. I also hear that some armies use muzzle brakes as well....Please note that I am aware that the link posted is showing the effects of muzzle brakes on an AK47. Which uses the same cartridge, has the same barrel length as my Para SKS, and weighs a bit more. So the muzzle brake will have an even greater effect at reducing recoil on my 7.5lb rifle.
