Yeah, but the blank alone was probably $300+ USD. Add in the hand shaping and polishing.....

Nobody shoots birds with a $15,000 Euro Purdy or Holland and Holland shotgun either, but there's still a waiting list 10 years long.

imho some of the 10/22 accessorie prices are getting a little unreal, 700 dollar stock, 50 dollar bolt knobs, 20 dollar takedown screws

Rugers(or .22's for that matter) don't fall into that category of elitist firearms

Plus the checkering and the ebony end cap and the skeleton checkered grip cap. I admit it is pricey but what do you expect for a custom non run-of-the-mill cookie cutter stock.
 
It is really expensive but if you have the money to spare and you want it why not, also imagine how many hours went into the making of that stock, you don't get guys to do that quality of work for minimum wage.
 
EXACTLY. Now, don't get me wrong....I wouldn't spend that kind of $$ on a 10-22, but if someone wanted me to make a stock for their freakin cooey I would, it's their $!

I charge 45/hr for custom work in in my shop. For your money you get top quality everything...from handwork to finishing....but it's still 45/hr.
Then again, what does your mechanic charge for his skilled labour? 70?-80?

Figure 10 hours to build a stock, 2 hrs to finish it, add the cost of the blank....you are getting up there PDQ. Hell, I've started with chunks of walnut that cost more than that whole stock!
 
Having done some work with tiger maple, I can tell you it is absolute hell to work with! It is expensive wood to buy, PITA to work with, but so beautiful. Personally I would not spend that kind of $$$ on a 10/22, but to some, it's only money.

While I agree that you can only "polish a turd" so much (ducks for cover, cocks belt-fed :evil: ) Rugers and .22's in general are clearly well placed in the "elitist" class.

Elitist is only is only a function of where you sit on the political/socio-economic spectrum. Betcha Sadam had gold plated Rugers too.....

The only thing worse than a love of fine shotguns, is a love of fine target rifles. That's a double cross I happily bear.

Damn you Wrong Way! If I ever win the Lotto, there'll be a semi-trailer full of birds-eye maple blanks on your doorstep the next day! :D

I've got a hard-on for a Marlin 69A with birds-eye maple stocks....no accounting for taste.
