Who wants a Restricted M16?

I'm tired of the people saying 2 things
1: I don't need any guns, but I want them because I enjoy shooting and collecting them.
2: Anyone who thinks full auto is too difficult to control for us "simple civilians" Go sit on a rake, I've fired full auto with no prior training and it is fun and not as difficult as the fools let on. If you can shoot semi auto you can shoot full auto.

Makes one think, who's more afraid of full autos, them or us.

As ive said, I am FAR from an anti and my collection would verify that. I am FULLY supportive of gun owners rights however we need to be realistic about things. I mean we are trying to get a simple semi auto rifle to non restricted status and yet some are saying we should try and get automatics off the prohib. We need to be realistic about our expectations.

If I am in the minority in regards to my opinions of civilian full auto then thats fine. And yeah, maybe because I am LEO I have a biased opinion about what should and shouldn't be legal. Either way its my opinion and I am being extremely professional about expressing it. You on the other hand, not soo much.

I wasnt trying to stir the pot on this here but clearly I did and because of that, this is my last post in regards to this topic.

Thanks to those who actually have a mature approach to a valued opinion of someone with actual experience

I have an opinion as well, and I'm pretty sure you being a LEO wouldn't want to hear it.

Keep up the good work throwing the rest of us under the bus.

We stand together or we fall individually.

Full autos are like dragsters; there is no "need" for a useless single-seat car that burns parts and money, makes huge amounts of smoke and noise without doing very much else, but go to any race track and you'll experience plenty of "desire" for exactly that.

Very good point...

Semi auto is a totally different story. Semi auto is perfect for a quick follow through shot while hunting in the event the first shot was a miss or poorly placed.

So you are loobing poorly placed and missed shots around the forest and that is not:

COMPLETELY dangerous in the hands of an untrained shooter.

Little hypocritical dont you think?

Shawn

This is so true. We must stand together as one.

So much for being respectful to other members on the board
Debates here on full auto and CCW are like disputing the proper care and feeding of a unicorn or the best way to get to Middle Earth. Even though the topics are pure fantasy some people become quite belligerent when you offer a different opinion.

Ultimately however it's the people who believe full auto and CCW are appropriate for the civilian population who are going to be the most disappointed.

Probably correct, but I really hate hearing the OFAH position on things, it reminds me of what happened when C68 was brought in, "with friends like that.....". If we left it up to those guys, there'd be no handguns and no black rifles in this country. Way to go, Ontario.

In principle, I'd agree there's nothing wrong with making FA guns R instead of P.

In practice... I fired FA guns in my Reserve days, and the thrill wore off fast. Maybe I'm just older and wiser [tired and jaded] but I think this is one of those things that seem fascinating but nobody would bother with for long. I could see firing off a mag or two just for the experience, but I wouldn't spend a nickel to have one for myself.

when you talk to a special interest group who is primarily about hunting you get a hunting perspective
if you talk to the police about controlling civilians owning firearms your get a police perspective
if you talk to rpal holders about firearms rights you get an rpal perspective
when you talk to the brainwashed sheeple of canada about firearms you get a sheeple perspective.

is anyone really surprised by any of this?

I'm all for full auto (even though I could never afford it) but I have to agree with the LEO here - we should be putting our collective efforts into getting AR-15s and the "other scary black rifles" into the non-restricted category because of their specifications not because of what they look like. That's basically gun racism LOL.

... who was it that said "red cars are more dangerous?"

Who wants a Restricted M16? I DO !!!

While a restricted FA M16 in Canada may be pure fantasy, I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were available, no matter what I had to sell in order to afford it. I agree that firing FA in 5.56/.223 would just be a novelty that most people would tire of quickly if they were having to pay for the ammo, however after the novelty wore off mine would get a dedicated .22LR barrel and a CMMG conversion bolt and I would be having the time of my life with Black Dog 50 round drums and 32 round mags :)

I personally don't see the need for full auto. It's totally useless and COMPLETELY dangerous in the hands of an untrained shooter. Now I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here or stray away from the topic at hand here but in reality, it has no purpose in civilian hands.
If you were an anti, that same statement would be used to describe any type of firearm as a means to take away all firearms from EVERYONE
