Who was it that was asking what a windpipe looked like?

I was butchering a roadkill, and thought to take a pic.

A girl pegged a doe right in front of me quite a few years ago. I stopped and asked if she was ok, gave her my info for insurance purposes ( witness in case insurance didn't believe it was wildlife).

Then I asked... "Are you going to eat that?" She gave me the strangest look and said "NO!"

"Cool mind if I take her home then?" I asked. "Be my guest" was her reply.

Mmm Mmm Mmm fresh doe.

Best part was when I called for a permit/tag or whatever, the NRO said they usually donate them to the needy, I said I am the needy (kinda was at the time)

When they came to get it and saw my place the said I could keep it and come get the tag in the morning. When I showed up he pulled another doe out of the freezer already cleaned and ready to cut.... they said "here take this one too."

AWESOME!

windpipes are slippery as f|**k too. Had an unnecessarily awkward gutting once:redface:

A little trick.

If you grab hold of the windpipe as shown in the pic, without cutting it, and pull hard, it will pull through from the top. Giving you a better grip, and eliminating the reach up into the chest cavity to get it from the bottom.

I usually use the windpipe as a handle to get the rest of the guts out (pulling towards the rear). But I also hack through the brisket and pelvic bones and apparently thats not the easiest way. Might have to get one of those orange "Butt-outs" from Cabelers.
