who wears mackinaws or wool pant??

Wool pants for three seasons of the year. Only material that stays toasty no matter what, like laying prone in the wet snow for a half day. Stanfield duofold long johns under, come winter. And a pair of Uufrotte Swede wool L.J's too when its really, really frigid.

I picked up a pair of wool trousers on sale this spring, will be trying them out if it gets cold enough. No sign of that yet, though.

columbia gallatin wool for me too. Super quiet, warm, and the legs never freeze up giving me the lovely corduroy swish when I'm still hunting. A good base layer, and I'm warm.

I used to wear Bannockburn tweed pants and fishermen's romeo shoes when I was in my teens, but the shoes were not very comfortable and the pants not terribly warm. Also had a red mackinaw jacket which got awfully heavy in the rain. Lots of better choices today. Particularly several layers of shirts and jackets for the upper body, so that you can add or subtract depending on time of day and level of activity.

cheers mooncoon

I used to wear WW2 wool battle dress pants when I was prospecting. Nice & warm Also the snow didnt stick too them & wick up like denim.

I wore a pair of army surplus wool battledress pants stamped "1951 Belfast Woolen Mills" until they got threadbare and inexplicably smaller around the waist.

I used to wear the brown Bannockburn wool pants before that and still have a near new pair of heavy German army wool pants too, but they need suspenders AND a belt. They seem to have shrunk in the waist too.

Weird.

pretty much all I will wear when things cool off...good wool clothes last many years because they are durable enough to work in....they are not easily ruined by a errant spark of the campfire or melted because they were placed to close to the stove.....you can easily patch or sew tears in wool clothes or just use them that way for years.
I have a pair or two that are twenty or more years old and the wool is still good however the cotton pockets are worn threw..they show the years but are still warm and durable as ever.
A good set of wool clothes (filson) is an investment.....

Yeah I wear them. Today for the first time this fall I put on my wool shirt to wear as well.

I bought a pair of Browning wool camo pants. They fit comfortably, and they are the best clothing item I own for hunting and shooting.

I was clearing trails in the rain for a week straight, and my legs were NEVER cold. I am 110% satisfied that I bought them, and they have held up through everything.

I even tore the outsides a bit on some blackberry bramble, and they just start looking nice, more rugged, like a guille suit. Browning.

I wore Filson Mackinaw pants all last winter surveying in the bush. They still look new and I highly recommend them.

I wear Codet (canadian made) mackinaw jacket and wool pants. Stanfields ( canadian made) long johns, wool socks and wool shirt. The only thing I can't find is a decent blaze coloured wool toque. Wool is the best.

Merino and Stanfields on top. And I've got a beauty mackinaw, 100% wool, that I found at a thrift store for $12. I haven't been out hunting in enough cold to really need the jacket, though.

I was thinking of buying a pair of Filsons, Not sure where we can get them in Canada? or I may just buy the columbia wool pants.

Nothing beats wool when still hunting.

Nice to have a better windbreaker as an outer layer when sitting in a stand on really cold days though.

I have a black and red Filson Double Mackinaw Cruiser and vest that I wear moose and deer hunting and I have the Filson wool pants. They are quiet and warm and they're wet and extremely heavy when wet. My coat has busted haners under it's weight. I still think it's the best there is. I also have a black double mac that I wear around town as my every day Fall coat but I don't feel that it's a good color for moose hunting so it stays hung up when I hit the bush. Filson makes the best!
