Who will try ambi mag release on Type97?

Going to try an ambi setup, but probably not Troy. Need to figure out if the two guns have interchangable mag releases or not first. They look the same, but may have different dimensions.

Some modification may be required.
 
Just compared them wthout pulling the guns apart. The T97 is significantly bigger than the AR.

The screw that passes through the T97 (from face of button to face of paddle) is about 4mm longer. 36mm vs 32mm
The T97 release paddle (left side of rifle,don't know its real name) is 4-5mm longer. 41mm vs 36.5mm
The width of the machined channel which the paddle sits in is the same, both 6.5mm.

Yes, they won't drop. Also the head of the screw and release button on the T97 has been punched.

Its removal will require a flat head screw driver with a channel cut in its centre to unscrew it. Also, I wasn't able to push the mag release paddle out far enough to clear the side of receiver.

I managed to loosen mine without damaging the finish by using vise grips while protecting the screw with a ziploc bag. That helped get a couple of mags to drop free. After you back it out enough, you can use a regular flathead.

I have LAR mags and they all drop free so I'm not too worried yet.

I guess I got lucky then. Tried a PMag, stainless GI mag, aluminium GI mag and the included steel one. All worked flawlessly and dropped free.

Which part get stuck on yours? The magwell or the catch itself?
 
I made this ambi release after reading in this thread that the AR release was not the same size. Works great and although I kind of got use to it on the right side this is much better and less awkward.

 
I made the pieces out of steel using a drill press, grinder, and welder. I may drill 3 lightening holes on the bottom of the lever so I'm holding off on painting it.
