I am looking at a vintage Anschutz 54 and/or new CZ 452 and 455s.

Are there any gunsmiths that stand out in the rf field in Canada?

TIA

I personally feel Rimfire is a different animal than centerfire.

It really depends on what one is looking for. Everybody wants or says they want the best. For some money is no object. For others buy once cry once. Others start with a budget build and in the end it costs more.

I have seen guys wanting things done that have nothing to do with the accuracy portion but are just convenient. If a smith/builder can not do the work (which may just be a conveinence) people think they are not good. The bottom line, can they cut a great chamber with MINIMAL runout? And bed the barreled action STRESS FREE into the stock? I feel this is where it all matters. There are other factors but this is the basics.

I have not heard of anyone in Canada who is a rimfire guru. There are guys who can do the work. I know Dennis Sorensen (aka Guntech) can. Whether or not he wants to tackle a job is up to him. Just as he prefers to work on certain actions over others.

Another key thing, one cannot compare a custom action to a factory. Yes the 40x's and 52's can be made to shoot but in the REAL competition circles nothing beats a custom. It may be beat from time to time in club matches but when the big boys play, rarely.

You have to know what you want to accomplish and be REALISTIC about it.

If there were a KING OF RIMFIRE IN CANADA I would love to know as well.

Keith Cunningham in Ontario knows his way around a rimfire, but out west I would be going to Ron Smith.
I have seen some of his BR50 rifles shoot amazingly well back in the day.
One could also contact Paul Reibin at Rangesports Unlimited to find out who is doing top shelf rimfire match rifle work these days, he will know.

It is interesting you say this. There is a current thread on another site that talks about the unparalleled success in rimfire benchrest of Joe Besche, who uses older Anschutz 54s as his actions.
