All this stuff is great info, I just picked up 520 rounds of copper washed norinco stuff at the Regina gun show for a great price. Took it out to put some of the new ammo through it and sight in the scope, 20ish rounds later it jams and I see the ejector halfway out of the face of the bolt with half the extractor in the sand... Only about 500 rounds through this gun!

Anyhoo, I did about half a billion hours of research on the topic of pressure and case differences between .308 and 7.62NATO and reached the conclusion that comparable loadings are virtually identical in the way of pressure.
The only differences arise with case, and chamber tolerances. Theoretically firing 7.62NATO out of a .308 chamber, you could run into a round that is too long. (as military ammo has a larger tolerance) Inversely, firing .308 out of a looser NATO bore could IN THEORY lead to a split casing due to excessive room for expansion. However I've never run into this, nor have I heard of it happening. Military brass is quite a bit thicker than Comercial brass (like winchester) which gives you plenty of leeway for expansion. However some Comercial brass (like federal) is also quite thick.
Over pressure is only an issue in semi autos, and only because you're using the wrong loads, not because they're .308
