Went out this afternoon for my second ever time of shooting trap. Put 4 boxes of shells through the ol' 870. My arms are KILLING me ! ! ! ! Who'd 'a thought that lifting up that 870 would be such good exercise? :D

As for results I'm starting to get a handle on how much to lead the birds. Got some good "vaporize" hits even on the side travellers.... :D I've still got a huge way to go though. I'm averaging somewhere around 15 hits out of 25 at the moment. And far too many of those are just chip hits. But as they say if it was easy it wouldn't be fun, right?

Not sure where I'll go with my clay shooting since I like a lot of the other shooting events as well as other non shooting interests. So I'd never be able to devote the time to get really good at this. But at the moment I'm seeing that a lighter semi might just make a lot of sense to be able to shoot trap or the other two shot events. And here I said to myself a while back that I'd never get a semi shotgun.... :D

I bought a nice o/u and I get alot less fatigue and my hits are in the high 80% range now (alot less and unpredictable). I am also a noob. Where do you shoot?

Practice 'shooting' the lightbulbs in your house at night. Builds muscle AND muscle memory. I find it helps me get a reliable mount too. I've even caught my missus doing the shotgun 'clean and jerk' to strengthen those girly arms of hers! :D 7-10lbs can be alot to carry so I know guys whose arms are tired for the first few days of hunting season. Enjoy!

Pitdogboy, I've shot the trap out at Mission so far.

Sherlockbonez, the launchers at Mission toss them out over a range of angles and when it shoots tight to the side of the positions it seems like it's going sideways but it's actualy more like a 45 from the center line.

LOL it has to be asked, are the lightbulbs on or off and what type of load are you using, lead or steel
