Wholesale Calgary... painful

I find a lot of poeple ##### alot about little...

When I go to the shop, I rarely need the expert advice of the counter guy, as I usually have researched, rather than spur of the moment buy...

I could care less if he knows anything about a rifle or bullet as long as he can pass it to me...

To what degree do you want the counter clerk to be educated in the 100's of products he sells?

For the most part, I have decent customer service at most places I have been.

I have had exceptional service at some smaller stores...

When I am looking for the downlow on my next plasma screen, I don't head to the Zellers electronics department

Reliable Guns here in Vancouver is a pleasure to deal with. Family run since 1950 I think, with good staff backing up the family.

Sounds like some bad times up in Calgary.

Reliable is a good gun shop to deal with; in the Fraser Valley the new Wanstalls is also very good...sounds like we have it better in the GVRD than they do in Calgary, that's for sure.

Wholesale Service

I don't know. I honestly think change may be afoot in WSS. The service has been noticeably different the last few times I visited the Calgary store..... And I'm not particularly good looking or charming in the least.:p

The last time I was in there, just killing time cause the families away, four employees asked if they could help. Two at the gun counter (no number either), one while I was looking at the Lowa's in footwear and one in the sleeping bags area......

Coulda knocked me over with a horse feather. Hopefully they're all still around when I've some money to spend.:)

Some of the experts should step up behind the counter. Get a part time job there.

Think it was this thread that I mentioned about hanging around a gun counter on a Saturday and listen to the conversations around you.

Al Simmons. Eli's. Gobles. Shooters Choice. TSE. P&D. Wild West. Wholesale in Edmonton and Grande Prairie. Bartons. Buffalo Gun Center.

Hang around any of the above places and listen. On Saturday.

Shut your own traps and just listen................... ;)

What are we supposed to listen for? The sound of hot air rising?? I think the biggest pain in the a$$ is when you go to the gun store and there are those guys there that just want to BS with the salesguy and talk shop . I think its these kinds of people that are the reason that there are the long lineups. I have experienced this at every store I have ever been to , guys just talking talk talk talk , these guys should stay home on saturday so the rest of us can get our ammo or whatever else we need and get out shootin!!

I was in the GP store today and got asked quite a few times if I need any help.Always had a good experiance in Edmonton. But I go in knowing what I want I just need some to unlock pass it to me.

For those that know me, I used to work there and can consider myself one the more knowledgeable gun counter staff at the Edmonton WSS.

1) Since UFA bought the stores, the was one pay raise and one only $14/H or $12.5/H partime?..I've heard theat the latest raise got shot down, so they are hiring anyone nowadays since they can keep anyone.

2) Inventory is mediocre at best & like someone said, has gotten worst on some department & a slight high on some. Personal note, we were told thing swould get better but personally think its gotten worst.

3) All the good staff are gone or have past away, for so many reasons!

4) It is what it is, I mean the prices are right on most items, but its a hit and miss if they have it in stock.

5) Customers get frustrated & the frustrations goes back to the staff person, just couldn't work there no more. Management don't really care but they do try to deal with the situations with the little play they have. They, as well are underpaid.

6) ''If we can't sell it to you but will sell it to someone else'' attitude has to go.

7) There are very little seminars from dealers/distributors etc.., so it is in a way a Walmart of gun stores, you ask for something (Stating that you know what you want) we get it for you with very little feedback or knowledge on the product.

8) Someone is making a lot of money on top of that hill!

Every store as those, one in particular on CGN had to be told not to show up on busy days. I love to hear & see the Rambo/Militia types, there always good for a good laugh.

My point exactly.

I don't go in a tie up a sales guy. If I am serious, I will ask. Questions and or to see a specific item behind the counter. Then move along in a timely fashion or make purchase.

Ive ordered from Wholesale sports on numerous occaisions, always had quick service, no complaints at all, I would order from them anytime:>

I generally have a good degree of patience, but I have no problem telling people to stop with the BS stories when I want to buy something. :D

Wholesale Sports Edmonton = Bad attitude+bad customer service. (Personal experience)

WSS sports Edmonton has shown real improvement over the last couple years. Service has been damn good in my experience. But I don't go there expecting them to tell me what I need, or to stand at the counter and impress them with my knowledge. I go, I buy, I leave.

I know what I want and I don't need advice or touchy/feely interaction. Group hugs and happy feelings are for the more recent generations.

Go to the US and visit Cabelas or Bass Pro - half their employees don't know s**t from shinola.

That's what I went in for......to buy. The guy showed me the Package Deal and told me it was cheaper to buy. I told him I just wanted what I wanted at that time. He said, "We don't sell that." I asked "Do you have any 30... Before I could finish my sentence, the guy walked away from me and waved me as to "Go away". They treat you better than they treated me, I'm happy for you.
