Wholesale Calgary... painful

My point exactly.

I don't go in a tie up a sales guy. If I am serious, I will ask. Questions and or to see a specific item behind the counter. Then move along in a timely fashion or make purchase.

Thats how I am as well , I know what I want I go in and I get it !
I try my best to research a product online or through friends to get some opinions so when it is time to go to the store I am in and out like a fiddlers elbow!!!!
I think some customers just like to hear themselves talk haha!
Honestly I know sometimes there are douches behind the counter but I have seen some pretty spaced out customers there too ! Like another guy on here said , there are 2 sides to every story! Wholesale is hit and miss for me , I just think its really ### when there are 2 people standing there and they still get you to take a number hahahhahahahahaha!!!

In my experience, its better to walk in their with the item number off the internet and having called before hand to ensure that your desired item is in stock. I like to go on tuesday/wed nights as I have gone and their are 2 customers and 3 free employees to serve me (it does happen). If I have a question to ask, I have learned that Russells or Pro Line are your better bet.

I once made the misktake of waiting 15min to approch the counter to ask about a pair of shooting glasses off the rack (do they fog?, etc...) and the guy launched into a 20 min lecture about various glasses and what I would need on the range (didn't even answer my question). Then he spent another 10 min after I asked for 3 boxes of .40 S&W telling me about how he didn't get along with the managers of a local shooting league.

Long story short - know what your walking into and be pre-pared

I have seen this same topic on 4 forums now...maybe WSS will change the way they do business if it gets enough attention!!

I was in calgary the other day, won't go there again! Service was terrible and they weren't very knowledgeable at all. I go in with a list of what I want and the numbers from their catalogue to make it easy and they still don't know what your talking about. I have had much better luck at the lethbridge store, at least you don't need to take a number even when the store is empty!!

the funny thing about the store is that its always full of customers, even with bad service...They still sell more than the other gun stores in Edmonton, combined!

Seems kinda strange since all of these Gun Nutz refuse to shop there.

Sadly, the vast majority of gun owners arn't gunnutz. Most gun owners shot there 10 rounds a year to take their deer and maybe a round every now and than after a few drinks at the family reunion.

I'll shop at whichever place has the lowest price. I don't care about customer service when all the guy has to do is hand me a rifle from behind the counter. If a shop like Proline has what I want at a competitive price I will be glad to throw my money down on their counter as opposed to Wholesale's.

I complain about them sometimes but at the same time I will say most of the time when I go there (for ammo) they have what I want ! They are also the only place I know of in Calgary that got in a ton of that Czech 7.62x39mm milsurp!

the 7.62x39 ammo is about the only reason I ever go there. ive never ran into a time where their prices were the cheapest as far as firearms go. at least not on the ones I was looking for.

Does it matter who owns them? It's not the company itself people are mad about, it's the level of service they recieve. Russels has always provided excellent customer service. :)

And they were spotty at times. I worked there too.;)

Like I said, I don't care if they know how to paperpatch or give me advice on swirl charging with extruded powders to limit compression, I just want them to know that when I ask for CCI BR2's I looking for a package of damn primers. And I don't care if you smile or not, but don't snap at me because you feel your an underpaid schlep.

My experience is with the Calgary store mostly. I feel the service at the Lethbridge WSS is great, and Mark has always treated me well. If I am in Edmonton I stop at P&D. Always did.

I actually happen to work at wholesale sports, and have this to say. First off, maybe the employee didn't know exactly what you were talking about. But you can't expect everyone to know everything instantly. Even you had to learn what you know at some point in your life, and this is when that person is learning, so don't be so hard on them, they will learn eventually. I'm sure you would agree that becoming an expert on something such as reloading takes time.

Next point. The majority of the problems is the managment. People have been working there for 5 years and still only make $12 an hour. This year, managment has decided not to give raises. People all over are quitting, and I don't blame them. The reason they have to hire whoever they can get is because they can't keep employees. I work in the guns and archery department, and I can tell you right now its a joke. They won't even tell us what or when we're getting things in, how long it will take to order something, it seems that they're getting rid of more and more of our suppliers that we can custom order from, and we're not even allowed to order our own stock inventory! I've heard of stores having to buy things from their competitors to sell for themselves, because they can never get any stock in. Even for things like glue, or wax, for making arrows, has to be bought at local competitors so the store can make arrows for its customers.

There are many things that need to be changed with the managment at Wholesale Sports, and that is the underlying cause for nearly all problems. As a customer and employee myself, I am not just blowing smoke and making things up. Its ridiculous and incredibly frustrating, and there is nothing worse than having to answer "I don't know" everytime someone asks you a question because the head office refuses to treat its employees as they should be treated and give them the necessary information to do their jobs.

if they are not making enough money they should have completed a trade or degree.they didnt get a raise this year, thats too bad i had to take a 20% pay cut to keep working and all my costs went up.find another job and stop crying about it.wholesale sports sucks.i find the canadian tire and proline the two best shops in calgary.knowlegable and friendly staff.

I can't believe all this whining about WWS...

I have never had an issue with or in any WWS store that I have ever entered.

I also don't care if the person behind the counter knows his/her stuff because I know my stuff and what I want and I do not have a problem helping them out.

Example was given earlier about CCI BLR2 primers I don't care if the clerks know that they are primers or not because I will tell them that the item I am looking for are primers.

I look at it this way I cannot walk behind the counter to check out their stock so need them to assist me by checking if items are in stock and pricing.

Might just be spec-O-lating here ,but I'm willing to bet that a good portion of WSS staff knows a heck of a lot more than the clowns that walk in front of them ,day after day.

I agree. Do your research beforehand and make your own informed decisions. And really, if they don't know something like CCI BLR2's being primers, then big deal, inform them and move on.

Expecting too much just leads to disappointment in almost every life situation.

Went to the GP store today, was quite amazed on the quantity & selection. Staff was limited in knowledge but seemed willing to learn.

On a positive note, I went into WSS Edmonton yesterday. I had two excellent guys helping me out. While one was looking up which part I needed, the other one helped me with some ammo, and while we were waiting for the first guy, helped me with a little info on ssome bullet choices. Blew WSS Calgary out of the water!

I've seen this topic over and over again for years. I don't think WSS is trembling in their boots.

Anyone ever wonder why there's always a line-up at WSS? Hint: It's called DEMAND. The WSS business model works, or there wouldn't be people waiting in line to buy their stuff.

Customers have the right to decide if they want to shop there or not, nothing more. WSS isn't perfect and probably never will be. There are times when customer demand outstrips WSS ability to service customers efficiently. People who understand this do their shopping off-season. If it bothers you - don't go there.
