Wholesale Calgary... painful

I complain about them sometimes but at the same time I will say most of the time when I go there (for ammo) they have what I want ! They are also the only place I know of in Calgary that got in a ton of that Czech 7.62x39mm milsurp!

We got it too! ;)

Here is one to start. I was told by an older fella in a cowboy hat right of the press that he uses 25-06 in his ol' 30-06 for deer cause it wrecks less meat. He saves the '06 shells for moose a elk and stuff:rolleyes:
I also had a fellow employee tell customers that if their bear spray expires the oils in it are edible and it can be used as steak spice. Sounds like the same level of dumb to me.

actually, yeah all bear spray contains is vegetable oil, ground up pepper seed placenta and a very small amount of ethyl alcohol to keep the stuff from freezing, so yes, you can eat it.
fwiw,

as far as 25-06 in a 30-06, i wouldn't eat that!!!

cheers

A jalapeno pepper has approximately 5000 Scotsville heat units. The pepper spray in question uses capsicum pepper at approximately 500000-750000 Scotsville heat units when diluted in the delivery method. The expiry isn't based on the fact that the capsicum wears out, it's the fact that it is an oil based spray and the capsicum settles and becomes less effective when delivered. If you want to throw 500-750x the heat of a Jalapeno on your steak give'r. Probably not something you want to be telling customers to try.
I've been on the brunt end of 750000-1000000 Scotsville heat units, and it burns in the mouth enough that grown men have needed to be hospitalized due to the inability to breath. Oil based deployment methods take longer to dissipate than the water based I went through, so again, I say give'r.:evil:

I had a scope mounted on a .22 yesterday at WSS and I was impressed with how friendly and prompt the guys were about getting to me for a Saturday morning and that they even boresighted it without me asking!
HOWEVER... once I got home and looked more closely I noticed big scratches on the scope from the guy sliding the scope's position while the rings were still tight. Good thing this was only a cheap Bushnell Rimfire scope, otherwise I would have gone back to complain about the scratches (about a quarter inch in length)!
It seems to be hit and miss down there at the best of times.

Slaves

There are many things that need to be changed with the managment at Wholesale Sports, and that is the underlying cause for nearly all problems. As a customer and employee myself, I am not just blowing smoke and making things up. Its ridiculous and incredibly frustrating, and there is nothing worse than having to answer "I don't know" everytime someone asks you a question because the head office refuses to treat its employees as they should be treated and give them the necessary information to do their jobs.

IMO, if it is not on the shelf don't ask unless you can talk to the ruler of the slaves. Employees working for $12/hr. are slaves. As a customer, remember: you are asking a slave when their master will have more product for you. Don't expect the slave to understand when their master will have more stock. They don't know. They shouldn't be expected to know: they are slaves. The master of slaves might know, but he too, is only the master of slaves so don't expect a good answer from him/her either. Use the shelf rule and move on.

Well looks like both positive and negative experiences and information.
Isnt it about time to end this thread?

It would be nice... and if all the whiners would quit shopping there it would even be better for the rest of us... :D

I have to chime in about the great service I receive from WSS in Winnipeg. Many times I walk in to see quite a few customers at the gun counter and groan a little. I've never waited more than a few minutes. When extra clerks become free they often walk over to assist the one serving me. This works great as I often get expert advice and some extra opinions that are worth considering.

Maybe this has something to do with the fact that WSS bought out Farmer's Supply and kept all the staff.

WSS is always my first stop even if I often have to get their prices lowered to match their competitor's (SIR is a few blocks away.) In comparison I have always left Cabela's (SIR) angry. How any company can employ such a group of arrogant jerks is beyond me. Also, their practice of bringing stock up from the back is aggravating. Wait 15 mins for service, walk clerk through catalog for 5 mins to find suitable item, wait 5-10 minutes for item to be brought up from the warehouse, wait another 15 mins for clerk to take 4 steps to pass the item to you.

I remember that a few customers just come to the store to poke at staff and threat them like ####..Likely they just went to Milarms Co before coming to the store or haven't been laid for a while.

The worst sort were the white collar type who sees you as a meer peasant, they're 100% legit ashholes :(
