So who's building one of these for hunting? Having the rifle use standard AR-15 barrels leaves lots of options for great hunting calibers: 5.56/.223, 7.62x39, 300 AAC Blackout, 6.5 Grendel, .6.8 SPC, ..450 Bushmaster, 458 Socom, .50 Beowulf and many more... Anyone getting multiple uppers for one lower?

What I really want to see is people starting to adopt the large bore calibers in Canada now that hunting with them is an option. Eg: .450 Bushmaster, .458 Socom, .50 Beowulf. Anyone here thinking about building a rifle with any of those? I've got a 16" .458 Socom Build on the go for an AR-15, excited to try out one of these large bore AR calibers.

UPDATE:

For those looking to build an SLR or AR and those looking for the hard to find 18.5" large bore AR barrels, True North Arms is now offering custom made match barrels in a variety of calibers and lengths starting at 18.6":

I've already ordered a 6.5 Grendel barrel, gas block, gas tube and BCG to go with the MCB-15 reciever set I have pre ordered.

Just need a lower parts kit, and decide on an MLOK handguard that's pretty light. I want to try to keep this rifle in the lighter range although the barrel I ordered is 2.5 lbs already. So no more heavy stuff! :)

I'm not too interested in the larger caliber cartridges right now. I think the Grendel will do fine on everything from yotes to wolves, deer and black bears from 0-400. I've got bigger guns for bigger stuff, so why I'm not rulign out multiple uppers, I'll just stick to the one for now. When it shows up, that is!

This is in a .223 action length? Price looks pretty good compared to changing everything out on BCL-102 but I was fantasizing about building one of those in .338 federal. Have a bunch of 200-210 grain bullets lying around my wm does not like.

Pretty ignorant on the modern sporting rifle stuff, would it be possible to rig one of these up in 50 Beowulf? Just needs a barrel, magazines and a 7.62x39 bolt?

Sounds good!

Maybe one of Maple Ridge Armoury's MLOK handguards will do the job? 9" 6.6oz / 12" 7.9oz / 15" 11.6oz. I kinda think from looking at the upper that the fact that its thicker might go well with the contours of this hand guard, plus its made in Canada.

Good luck shopping!

Yep .223 action length. And it looks like from a recent post by Wolverine Supplies that they might look into getting non-restricted length .50 Beowulf barrels for these builds. Yeah from what I understand the 7.62x39 bolt will work. Another plus with this is that on a normal AR-15 upper the ejection port would be too small for the larger cartridges like the Beowulf so you'd have to cut it larger or buy a special upper, luckily with this upper Maccabee has made the ejection port larger to work with any caliber. That'd be a nice build.

I’ve researched ultralight AR’s. Might have to start again. Don’t know anything about them , but a 5lb 6.5 I’d be all over for hunting. Or a x39 barreled in 308 for a 130 gr ttsx. Back to google

The socom would be cool. I've been thinking about one in a bolt gun for walking around

A .458 Socom bolt gun would be awesome! Really I'm just glad there is finally any option for NR in these big bore calibers for hunting here. Maybe the Maccabee receiver sets will grow the market for these calibers enough so that we'll start seeing bolt actions come into the country in a couple years, as well as brass and reloading equipment.

I'm building a 223 wylde first as I know nothing about ar15s. Then going to build another upper in the 6.5 Grendel once I learn the ropes. So far the barrel is on order the bcg is purchased
