Hey, just looking to hear from some of yous of have or have fired off a walther p99 .40 s&w. I want to hear about the good, the bad and the ugly!

I heard and read some bad stories of their hard recoil and that they are really snappy and put a beating to the hands. I've got two 9mm pistols already and a .45 and am now getting a .40 in the p99.

I plan on owning a desert eagle .44 in the future..is this a good pistol to get me geared towards it?

thanks

I own a P99 in .40 S&W. It was actually my first handgun purchase. I had never shot a .40 before so I was a little Leary as to whether I could put up with the recoil. I am glad I went with the .40 over the 9mm because I really do enjoy shooting it. The recoil is definitely more than a 9mm, quite stout but not nearly as bad as I had expected. My hands never get tired from shooting it in fact when I shoot my other guns (a .45 and a .22) and than switch back to my P99, I am always amazed just how nice the grips fit my hand. Just like a glove, the ergonomics are wonderful.

What I have done in the past is download the round to the point where it is very mild. When I do this though I do miss the sharper recoil of a factory spec load so I don't download it that often.

I don't own to many guns but even though I would be willing to part with the others, I would not get rid of this one. It's definitely a keeper.

I bought a p99 a couple of years ago. The one with the european closed rail. It's quite a snappy little shooter but not uncontrollably so. About a year later I bought a Springco recoil reducing spring from Brownells and wow it made quite a difference. No problem making doubletaps with it now. As for the sights, the rear sights are ok but I ended up replacing the front with a Hiviz firbre.
All in all a great little gun. The only thing I want for is rail. If you get one be sure that it's the one with the open rail.

I'll have to look into one of those springs..do you know the name of the manufacturer of the spring...I browsed their website and seen may recoil reducers for shotguns and rifles. Thanks

When I held one at a local gun store, it did have a great feel to it. Cant wait to get mine!

I gor mine through Brownells.com

SpringCo USA

Part No 943-000-012 - about U$80

If you are in the Okanagan somewhere I'll let you give mine a try.

I got one awhile ago.... I like it.....

Big fan of the Glock 22 so no real surprize when I fired it. I like the fit in my hand better than a Glock and the ambi-mag release is Grrrreat...

just my 2 cents...

I fired a friends on a number of occasions and was NOT impressed.

The curve of the trigger captured my finger to the point where it's extremely annoying, and affected my shooting pleasure.

If you have large hands and a large diameter index finger, it's a no go.
