Who's ready for moose?

Leaving this Sunday for a week of hunting on the west coast of Newfoundland. Last year 75% of hunters in that area got their moose.

Good luck Captonion!!
We've already done a 4 day crossbow hunt (without success) near Tadoussac & we'll try our luck again Thanksgiving day weekend with rifle....
Whitetail deer opens here for crossbow on Saturday coming, so I'll be out for that!
Gotta love it!

Moose Hunting

We are heading to Pakashkan Lodge, north of Upsala in WMU 15A in mid October. One guy backed out so just the two of us. Can anyone recommend a butcher or freezing service in Upsala or Thunder Bay? If we could get the animal (hopefully) processed in TB we would not have to tow a trailer. Thanks for any advice.

Try Mendyk Meats just west of TBay off of 11/17. I think his first name is Roy. He is in the TBay phone directory. It has been a few years since he cut for us but he did an excellent job.

We went up to Fort Saint John BC got there Saturday and on Sunday my son got his first moose it was also his first big game animal a nice immature

How does that work?

Bull only or open?

How many years did it take you to get drawn?

We put in applications for the draw in May(using provincial Medicare numbers),the draw is done in July. When you put in your name you also have to indicate what area of the province you will be hunting in, the number of licences vary from zone to zone for example one zone may have 25 names drawn but another zone may have 600, we know the number of names for each area before we apply, 3500 names are drawn about 2500 animals will be harvested.
We are allowed to hunt both bulls and cows. One animal per licence.
I am one of the lucky ones I've been drawn 3 times in 31 years and I haven't always had my name in, my kid brother hasn't been so lucky he's had his name in every year for the last 28 years and has yet to be drawn. The last time I got it was 16 years ago, Last year my dad got it, we got a nice 860lbs bull same group of four. Its a short hunt but intense and for us a bit of a tradition. We were raised on wild meat my dad is seen as one of the best hunters in the area. He'll be 73 in Oct he still loves to walk the woods, and I'd hate to be the Moose that runs into him!!!!
