Been thinking of building a Remington 870 20 gauge HD type shotgun.

Anyone running this type of rig ?

Would love a 14" 870 20 ga. but never seen such a beast.

I have a 12.5" Grizzly 20ga available for my wife. Been looking for #1 buck shells to have on hand just in case but so far have to settle for #3. At typical in home distances I think that size is adequate.

I picked up on of those DA 12.5" 20 ga.'s for my wife as well. Put a lot into it accessory wise.

Federal slugs are easy to find but BK is a bit difficult. Found a bunch on 3" locally but want to stick with 2 3/4" for her.

Been digging hers so kinda thinking of doing up a Remington 20 gauge.

Same. It is her bear gun when she goes camping with the girls.

We did find one slug that it did not like! IIRC I posted a range review? Anyhow, it was an easy fix by switching & it runs like a top!

I 'might' like her 20ga more than my 12... Chuckle

I have an 18.75" VR Youth in 20 ga and, in spite of the fact that I have a half dozen other870's in 12 ga (and even one in 16), this one could literally be the do-all shotgun for me. I have a factory 2-rd mag extension on it but would love if someone made a 1-rd for it, so far no luck, and would likewise greatly appreciate a 14" tube for it, once again, no luck.

The only real mod I made was the addition of laminated furniture and a steel mag follower, and the modified choke tube lives in it all the time...

There's nothing wrong with that solution either. Another thing that helps of to stay away from flyweight shotguns - a little extra weight helps tame things down, as does a good recoil pad...

Agreed, I find the Hogue stock I put on hers has a pretty decent recoil pad. I think the short length of pull stock helps a lot too with a more modern aggressive shooting stance.

Yup, that's exactly why I passed on my original plan of the Corwin 20 gauge. Also installed a limbsaver on a Hogue stock for her. Agree, the extra bit of weight is a plus.

I've got between 12 000 and 15 000 rounds (target loads) through this Mossberg without a hiccup. 7+1 capacity. Maybe a bit long for a backpacking shotgun, but it sure is a workhorse.
