I've had AI-style wildcats and the number one thing I've appreciated is near nil case stretching. Seems they net 100-150fps over the standard cartridge and by 500 yards, that really starts to show up.

Oh, I want to.
I waffle between common sense and sticking with my .270 and bright new horizons. Would be nice not to stock two bullets of such similar diameters, .277 and .284, and seems the AI flattens out the 7mm a bit.

Just too obscure to locate brass for I'm afraid, can form .280 AI easily out of .30-06 of which I have a bunch. Odds are I'll stick with my .270, it's growing on me a good deal. Just irks me having guns I have trouble selling in 7mm and stocking both .277 and .284 on the reload bench. Willing to spend a grand on reamers, headspace gauges, barrel blank, and fitting it to save $500 on a different diameter of components it seems.
I'm convinced they breed in there, every time I close the safe door.

My 280ai Kimber Montana 84L feeds rounds like greased sausages, but it sure didn't when I bought it. When I got it, it was leaving brass shavings in the mag box. I polished the underside of the rails, feed ramp, and front top of mag box. I was just like you when I was talking to owner about it, and honestly was disappointed when it arrived even though it fed the rounds it was very rough. It now feeds as good as any rifle I've owned, and I've had a few

I have s 280 built on a Montana action 25"bbl and long throated it certainly out performs the 7x57 and its next to the 280 AI in couple of loads with 160gr bullets the 280 is burning the same amount of powder as the 280ai I have both of the other calibers Cooper 52 280ai 24" bll and fn model 70 featherweight 7x57 22" bbl even with the inline mag the Cooper feeds terrible

I like the sounds of your FN Model 70 7x57, you chose the long action I presume? Been sizing it up, have long and short FN Model 70s and it could just fit in a short action, with tweaks. Limits you a good deal however.
its not a 280ai but its also not far off, i built a 270 ai on a 700 action, with a ron smith barrel, bedded into a custom walnut stock and i haven't had any issues with feeding, the action was off a 700 stainless synthetic in 270 before the rebuild and it feeds as smooth as it did before being rebuilt

I've given a lot of thought to .270AI if doing a custom, headspaced so I can shoot factory .270 to fireform or in a pinch. Kind of slick versatility, that.

yeah I'm pretty happy with the way i went, I've tried running different brands of factory 270 win thru it just to see how it ran and everything was good. Unfortunately i don't have a reamer, as much as id like to get into gunsmithing a little bit i chose to be a carpenter instead of a machinist. i had my 270 built by bob at custom gunworx around rocky mountain house in alberta.
