ALL, I'm doing a quick sounding on the Canadian market of the interest level in NOT JUST RC K98's but RC G43's! The Russians did not just capture k98's THEY got the whole shooting match and as such I am working a contact in the mother country about getting some nice G43 semi automatic RC's brought over to Canuckville. I will also be checking into pistols. But for now the G43

I read on an US board about the thousands of captured G43's in storage in Russia. They mentioned the biggest obstacle in getting them over here was price. They stated the Russians were asking too much for them but with the way the market is going over here, it will definitely be worth it in the near future. I would get an RC G43, depending on the price.

The Russians have been trying to sell these for quite a while. Price was something like $800.00 US each per lot (some are nice, some with broken stocks, missing bolts), no selection take it or leave deal. Add all different fees/bribes/duty/shipping etc...... Plus they are reblued/mismatched/electro-penciled numbers. No US Importers were interested under those conditions.

If you can get them at a good price and get reasonable quality there is certainly a market for them in Canada.

JP has a point. The market has to have something in it for the retailer. If the guns are shyte condition, it is hard for them to sell. There are psychological price points with something worthwhile for the customer before they will take a risk.

The Ukranian SVT rifles of a few years ago are a good example. They have heavily varnished stocks, laser proofhouse marks, plum coloured "bluing" and forced match parts. At $500 they were a tough sell; I'd pay higher for a G43, but not over $1000 retail.

All. Very good points indeed! I can only work my contact to try to get some kind of good deal. I was in the communications branch for my stent in the forces, my russian bud was also a siggy. (We are former cold war mo foes), Igor haha,, IGOR.......AHHHHGGGG yes a classic name, but anyhow Iggy is currently in Ft Mac working with me. We will keep you posted. A short trip to Russia in the near future may produce some results. I only want to get the damn things in your gun cabinets for a fair price.

Well, As a New Guy looking for A G-43, I'd have to say yes please, though I'd Side with Several others here and say it would be price dependant. Hope you do get them over here. Cheers-JamieW

Broken stocks will cost over $800.00 for an original replacement (If you can even find one). Good reproduction stocks are $500.00 (+). Don't even go there if there are missing or cracked bolts, add another $300.00. Just a missing extractor will cost you a $100.00.

If they are $800.00 US in a no selection lot. Thats $1000.00 Cdn and you have'nt even got'em out of Russia yet!
:(

I'd have to side with JP on this one. They will probably stay in Russia until the wholesale price drops to $300.00 - $400.00 ea.

That is one ###y beotch , i would be up for one but agree with most of the others that the price would have to be right . but excuse the stoopid question but what calibre is that baby . a bit off threas please forgive me but I was considering getting an svt 40 as they still seem to be a reasonable price and or avaliable . but what could i expect from it as a shootie .

I remember recently on the k98 forum there were a couple of importers from the US who both said it was just not financially feasable for anyone to bring these in at the current price the Russians want for them. The Russians also wanted to sell a minimum quantity of several hundred at one time as well, making it very cost restrictive, and no room for profit. WIll eb interesting to see what comes of them:)
