Why 223's are a poor long range choice

Neat article. I'm not surprised though the 223 was never meant to shoot past 500m It was meant for low recoil light weight out of AR-15's. It works great for fast repeated hits at 0-300m which is what it was designed to do. The fact that it works beyond that is just a bonus.
 
I shoot TR 308 and I can see one big advantage to 223. With a 223 you can get a hunting licence to carry 50 weeks a year in N.B. and we have lots of clear cuts and fields where a shooter can practice. With a 308 we need to be on an authorised range most of the year and that limits practice time.
