Why 6.5 Creedmore?

No, not really. it works as advertised.

But a Gun Nut could make something better using a 260 Rem and a throating reamer.

Yes BUT as you know it would only be a single shot or on a medium or long action because of its long overall lenght then iike a 6.5-284 so then you might as well have a 6.5-284 Norma - Tikka T3 action is Perfect for the 260 Rem - 6.5 x 55 Swede - 6.5-284 Norma or 6.5 PRC cartridges ! jmo My Tikka T3 is a 6.5 x55 Swede and it works Well ! My newest build will be a 6.5 Creedmoor. I love my 204 Ruger, and the 6.5 will slot in nicely. Love the fact it is in small primer brass, decent ballistics. Will make Coyote calling fun when they are out of humane envelope for the 204 to handle.

I believe it's recent attention has a lot to do with it's unofficial adoption by PRS guys.

IMO, 6.5 Creedmore is "better" than the 308 just like the 6.8SPC is "better" than 5.56. Sounds great on paper but unless the military ends up adopting it, it's just another "caliber-de-jour" that'll end up fading into obscurity.

Unlike the 6.8 SPC which was a pipe dream, the US special forces are actually moving towards 6.5CM.

I am personally waiting for HK M110A1 in 6.5CM.

Last month, the command conducted a reliability test, using two incumbent weapons, currently in US service; the FN SCAR Heavy and KAC M110. Two weapons of each type were used, one was in 260 Remington and the other in 6.5 CM. What they found is that both weapons performed just as well and were just as reliable in either caliber.

As both cartridges were similarly accurate and reliable, the determining factor for selection of 6.5 CM would end up being trade space. The prevailing attitude is that there was more room with the 6.5 CM to further develop projectiles and loads.

I don’t expect a major announcement, or any fanfare with this decision. Instead, you’ll begin to see small movements toward configuring weapons to utilize this round.

At the USASOC Sniper Competition, there were several weapons in 6.5 CM.....

Cartridge/Ammo Comparisons

So where would the .243 fit in amongst these caliber; accuracy, recoil, game size...

Here is a chart that I put together showing comparisons of Muzzle Velocity/ Muzzle Energy/ Recoil Energy/ and Effective Range for Moose. I have always used 1200 ft. lbs .Terminal Energy as sufficient for Moose as High SD bullets with a 1900 ft./s Impact velocity will usually penetrate "to the hide on the other side" or through a moose or elk. The 243 is good to about 300 yards with the right bullet selection but there are many better choices.

Seat a 147gr Hornady ELD to 2.8" in a 260 Rem. Any slight advantage in case capacity the 260 had, is gone (54grs H2O case, after bullet seated, 45.2grs usable capacity). Most 260's were 1:9 twist and the bullet would hit the paper sideways. Look for factory 260 Remington rifles, good luck. Look for 260 Rem factory ammo, good luck. Look for brass empties, good luck

I can count 11 different factory 260 Rem loads available in Canada
- Barnes 120gr TTSX VorTx
- Barnes 140gr Precision Match
- Hornady 129gr SST Superformance
- Hornady 130gr ELD Match
- Nosler 120gr Ballistic Tip
- Nosler Trophy Grade 125gr Partition
- Nosler Trophy Grade 130gr Accubond
- Remington 140gr Core Lokt
- Federal Fusion 120gr
- Federal Gold Medal 142gr Sierra MK

6.5 Creedmoor, 40 different loads from Barnes, Browning, Federal. Hornady, HSM, Nosler, Remington, Sig Sauer & Winchester

Anything the 260, 6.5x47, 6.5x55 does, the Creed does as well, and you can benefit from the large selection of firearms and ammo.
It's so funny... One of the biggest- if not the biggest- fans of the 260 here on CGN over the years. TB, has the good sense to see the upsides to a newer, competing cartridge, but the old boys continue to beat the "it's all marketing" drum.

There are two types of people, those who have a creedmoor and those who refuse to have one but can’t stop thinking about it

Hello, my name is Chilly and I have a 6.5 Creedmoor.

They're absolute trash! Inaccurate, kicks like a desert mule, and a nightmare to load for.

So, don't buy one! Leave lots of 6.5 projectiles, brass, and H4350 powder on the shelf for the dumb schmucks like me who are stuck with one.

Oh woe is me! I wish I'd never bought this rifle... (insert crocodile tears and Kleenex) 😭😭

Walk in to the local gun store to buy a nice LR target rifle. Oh look there are 10 different rifles to choose from in 6.5 CM! And a couple boxes of Lapua Palma brass sitting on the shelf. How many other calibers can say that? Thinking about it there was no other Lapua brass on the shelf that day.

I understand. I shoot the X55 and have been reloading for it for 29 years. With good components and diligent reloading these rifles seem to work miracles. I’m primarily a hunter and will stick with my x55.
