Hi All,

Just curious on your thoughts of why you like the M14, or M1a, M305, FAL, SG542, Valmet in 7.62, etc?

it is good to shooting something that is also good for medium/big game? other?

for me personally, I felt an attraction to the m14 when I was very young... the whole Vietnam thing hehehe
but as an adult, my initial purchase of an m14 rifle was simply an affinity for military firearms and the m14 was cheap as hell over the counter at lever arms in Vancouver so many years ago. I had a bren gun too, so much fun to shoot semi auto 303 from such a big gun hehehe
but today, I see my m14 as a rugged survival tool, I can hunt pretty much anything that walks in BC with it, it's simple to clean and maintain and in a survival situation, be it natural disaster, zombie apocalypse or what have you..... it won't let me down :D

that and it's a damn fun rifle to tinker with a shoot. I don't own a single firearm, not one, that I haven't built myself from the ground up and that is a BIG part of why I love my m14 (s) :)

The FALs are prohibited, so they can no longer be shot. However given the chance, I would snap one up in an instant if I could own and fire them again. I miss my Brown Bess.

As to the question, there is something to be said about the elegance and thought of design behind these firearms, they were made in a time when the world was poised for round three. They were to be used by men who needed to be good shots and know how to ride the recoil.

I grew up with surplus rifles as my Father and his buddies restored, shot, and collected them. I like the history and the feel of an old rifle many times better than plastic or composite guns. All the calibers are pretty much a 30.06 class bullet and I can take any game in North America with them, and I have.

Each to their own, but thats what I like, and thats what I do.

I thought everybody knew!?

If you don't have at least one battle rifle, I guarantee your ... shut your mouth now!, you what I'm talkin about... will fall off!

Now you really don't want that to happen, do you?
