Why airguns

I shoot mine all summer in the back yard. The neighbours bring theirs over also and we set up a shooting gallery. They are also great for small rodent control. I have exterminated pests like squirrels, pigeons, crows etc...

I had my first break open .22 when 12 years old. 500fps. That was FUN!. It broke, and now 30 some years later, i bought a pistol from crappy tire (clearance). I shoot tin cans off the fence with my kid, and sometimes use the dirty bird targets. Great way to teach kids about safety, and build that muscle/memory reflex. Ya, they can do it on playstation, but its not the same.

With a powder burner the cartrige does all the work, its a chemical reaction, but with an air rifle or pistol the entire unit does the work, I'm talking about springers, basically a single piston engine shooting machine. Also there has to be something beneath the 22 rimfire, for urban or in house shooting that is safe and enjoyable with out worrying about the power tripping cops kicking you in the face.

I've never in my wanderings come across real nice airguns, do you buy the $80 ones from the hardware store or do you buy the ones off hunting stores like Cabelas?
Not shooting during winter is killing me :(

Time for you to hang out at dedicated airgun forums... Google it.

Google airgunsource in Peterborough and specialtyshootingsportsoutdoors in Calgary. There is where you can find high quality airguns, some with factory built full length over the barrel shrouds, springers or PCP, that have been legally imported into Canada like the one I have. Or you can go to CTC and get one for under $300 but you get what you pay for.

When you do join them forums... use the "search" feature for your questions since your a newb to a shooting sport that has been around for centuries. In other words if you're thinking it, it's been asked a thousand time so that means your question has already been answered.

air guns are fun to their own extent. really cheap to shoot. safe for kids and kids love to shoot them too.

One of the best priced places for air rifles I found is online at Specialty Shooting Sports and for certain pistols is Guns N Things. I just got a nice nickle plated S&W revolver from them for $140.00 less than WSS and that isn't even adding the tax that I would have had to pay besides.

"...how similar are they to real firearms?..." Depends on the air rifle. Even a low end air rifles requires the same shooting techniques(breathing, sight picture and trigger control) as any 'real firearm'.

Because I can turn the inside of my house into a world of sh!t. When the bb pistols come out, stuff that looks highly reactive get fvcked up. It brings me back to my youth, I always had them. I am 34 now and still fvcking play with them. The various gf's I were with hated all the constant gunplay in the house with paintballs, airsoft, bb's etc. Things that shoot stuff amaze me.

When I was a little teenage sh!t back in the 70's (yes, I'm that old), I used to sit in my buddy's attic with the lights out and through the window, we would snipe those little christmas lights out of the neighbourhood with pellet guns. They are great "reactive" targets at night because they flash bright just before they go out. We got caught and the cops came over to my house and told my dad to kick my a$$. Those were the good old days. My dad would take the gun off me, not the cops. I got the gun back after I earned enough money to pay for all the christmas lights I shot out. 25-50 yards is a good distance for a CO2 pistol.

Ha when I was a kid(1997) there was a bad flood in my area and we had a problem with rats(never seen them in the area before or after that) so my parents got me a box of BBs and offered me $1 for every rat killed and buried. $14 later we were rat free and I picked up shooting as a hobby. :)

I think I should get another air rifle. RWS looks like fun. :D

Discipline of a child in the "good old days" was the parents duty. It is sad nowadays to have law enforcement intervene where the parents should pick up the responsability. I have as a teen had a bbb gun confiscated by the police, because a neighbour complained I was shooting in the back yard. In retribution I poisoned their flower bed (nice japanese one) with a chemical concoction that prohibited flower growth for about five years. It was a science set that I mixed all the chemicals together along with household poisons. That learned em.
