Why all the M38 hype?

Brutal recoil again...f:P:

I'm sure not Superman & neither is my 13 year old daughter...she does say 'it kicks a bit though'.
But in fairness that was the M44 and the extra pound of bayonet probably dampened the recoil.
They do throw flame and definitely require ear muffs and not plugs as well.
Handy little gun IMO, but accuracy is much less than the long rifles for sure.
I'm holding off on the M38 for a bit...if there is still a surplus of them I may pick one up later.

M38's have been scarce for some time now & it's great to see them appear at a reasonable price.
For us folks that love Mosin Nagants and tinker on them to attain the most accuracy that we can
get out of the buggers, an M38 makes for a great addition to the collection as well as a great
little woods gun to plop deer & larger game with.

If one gets one of these to just waste surplus ammo out of, they will no doubt be dissapointed.
There's no big deal to tuning both rifle and ammo to get good results on both targets and game
within reasonable parameters.

It all boils down to skill of work, experience & common sense along with a realistic expectation
of the end result. In terms of gunsmithing and handloading,as well as marksmanship, we're
talking not just of mere years, but decades.:)

The Xbox generation have a long way to go.

I purchased a m38 and m44 back in 2009 and I fell in love with the simplicity of the m38. Without that extra metal hanging off the side of the barrel I couldn't help but believe this assisted the accuracy I was seeing on the 100m range.

I was in utter shock when I saw them being retailed for $600 bucks. They are neat little carbines, and very simple to boot. I tend to disregard dealer hype about supply, but in the milsurp game there's no guarantees about supply, or condition of future shipments. You buy when you see a price you like and don't think twice or you'll regret it later.

All supply and demand. Yes you used to be able to buy these for only $150 or cheaper a few years ago, but for at least 2-3 years they have been hard to find. As a result prices have raised to $400+, the same goes for Nagant Pistols.

I bought my first 91/30 years ago and an M44, so I am very excited about my $239 M38.
