I totally agree about getting someone else to help you. Perhaps the gun does not fit properly or you may be having trouble with a particular angle or who knows ??

Someone standing behind you & watching what you are doing should be able to give you some tips & get your average up.

Absolutely - get help, it will save you money and time.

You should check gun fit, form and technique - preferably in this order.

Hope this helps

You didn't say what kind of gun you are shooting, but check the choke----if you are using the same gun you hunt with it is probally choked too tight---try to find a skeet or cylinder choke tube and you will notice the difference right away----as soon as I went to skeet/skeet tubes in my O/U my scores jumped right into the 20's and I am holding and swinging the same as before, so it has to be the proper chokes that have helped my score.

And keep that gun swinging---I always try and over-exagerate my follow through by keeping my swing going after the shot untill I am aiming all the way over to the opposite house that the first clay has come from.

Have fun and take care!

There are alot of things one can do to help improve oneself. One thing that has helped me, so far, is getting good books and reading about point of aim, where and how one takes the bird and what the proper foot position is. Skeet is kind of a set piece and my average took a jump when I started doing these things as well and as consistently as I could. It also helped to get my gun shooting to point of aim. That being said, it would be nice to have good coaching like others have pointed out. But sometimes that isn't available and I'm just finding such help now that I am beginning to understand what I am doing. I can also tell when I am getting good advice and poor advice, which helps sometimes. It is important to remember that learning a skill often goes in steps or stages, too. At first you learn and improve quickly, then you plateau for awhile or go flat. If you keep practising you will find yourself improving again. As you get better and better, the plateaus tend to get longer and longer. Finally, one has to be patient and practice as much as possible. Many of these skills aren't simple and they take time to learn and do well. Good luck.

Buy the first 2 books listed on this page and read them, way cheaper than a Perazzi:p You will be breaking 20 in no time, so pick out the new shotgun dad is going to buy you:cool:

If there is a good local instructor around that is the way to go. That doesn't mean just anyone at the club but someone who instructs regularly.

A decent instructor will teach you foot position, eye hold, gun hold and the mechanics of the game and ensure you gun fits.

In the absence of a good instructor go to this site and consider one of his instructional DVDs. He is the guru among skeet shooters.

And drop the term "shotty." ;)

150 rounds is nothing. You haven't even warmed up the barrel yet. You are doing the right thing by asking for advice this early in the game. It shows that you want to learn the game and improve. The guys here have given you good advice listen to them. Find an instructor and correct any mistakes before they become major problems. Good luck.

Keep your belly pointed at the low house. (assuming you are right handed.) When you think you are leading the clay enough, lead it more. Make sure you swing all the way through your shots, even further than you need too.

These were tips that helped me shoot better.

Have an experienced shooter watch you and give pointers.

The first 100,000 targets are the hardest ones. Keep shooting (lots), and get someone who knows what they are talking about to coach you.

Brad.

. Check at the range & ask for help. PS sometimes our dads are not the best teachers for us

Ain't that the truth. Two things I almost gave up on because of my Dad and is weird approach on teaching (lots of yelling), Shooting and Driving.
Thank God for Uncles (on my Mothers side)

Don't be in such a hurry !

Keep your focus on the targets (and don't let your mind wander to the little "hotties" you saw in school today ! )

Just kidding. With a little good coaching (from someone who is capable of coaching, not just offering free advice) and maybe 3 or 4 flats of shells,
a little help with form, fit, balance & fundamentals ... you'll get there !

Be patient ... and work at it. Results are earned ... not expected.

well thanks for the tips im shooting a bps that is about 10 years old. not my gun but my coatch. he says it has over 50 000 rounds trough it. its wierd one day i shoot 1,2,6,7,8 clean and get nothing on 3,4,5. and other days the opisite with a few exeption.

Get yourself a Semi or an O/U that fits you. and your scores will go up.

Seems no particular target is giving you great difficulty - thus the problem is ... YOU ... not being focussed enough to do it consistantly and repetitively. Practice, good form/technique, proper gun fit & balance and lots & lots of shells will help. Most of the rest is up to you.

Think Tiger Woods "got better" after hitting a ball only 150 times ????

Sorry, but that's the way it is.... ( Stupid Game anyway ! ;) )

Wanna break more targets?
Name them!!!!

Seriously, I started hitting way more targets after I decided where to break them. And then break them them there. Saves a lot of chasing

That sure is a lot better advice than the suggestions to over exagerate the swing:rolleyes: and when you think you got enough lead, to add some more.:rolleyes: With the overexagerated method, some days your hot, but most days you not!

I would second and third the suggestion to get a good coach and failing that would suggest a video from someone like Todd Bender or Gil and Vickie Ash.
