Why are charging handles so $$$$

Like I said... cheap soft aluminum that will stretch, break, twist, and react poorly to the gas tube heat.

Is a $30-80 part depending on how fancy you want to go... why save money here?

Alright that's a convincing argument.

wtf happened there to twist like that>? that looks pretty deliberate. Is it a airsoft zinc alloy? Is it paint or anodize? looks like trash

It was deliberate.

I did a side by side comparison wish. Com vs real.

You should have seen the owners face when I bent it like a wet noodle.

They are made with very low grade aluminum. And even I was surprised how easy it was to deform.

Real ones are significantly stronger.

I would bet that under a hard extraction the wish one would stretch or break instantly. Making for a much worse day having to take your gun apart completely to fix it.

Some of it is ergonomics. Especially with gloves etc. Regular m4 charging handles works. But the control is not very pronounced and not conducive for fast and aggresive manipulation.

If you're a bolt catch guy or just a recreational shooter it's good to go.

If you run the charging handle hard something like a bcm gunfighter would be worth the extra bucks. The raptors ambi controls are nice but not strictly necessary
The geissele imo is overpriced.

I'm not defending the wish handle but if it's deliberately done I have no doubt I could do the same to any charging handle. Did it break before you twisted it?

I implore you to do the comparison.

Or buy and send me another wish one, and I will compare it direct to a real one. I will post a video.

I will put it in a vice, and measure the force it takes to bend... Better yet, send me two and I will also stretch one with a hard malfunction.

Real north american quality 6061 or 7075 will not bent nearly that much without fracturing and cracking, the T6 hardening will not allow it. I make parts out of 6061 T6 and I can only bent it maybe 30 degrees before it snaps, without annealing it first to take the temper out

Chinese aluminum is junk in comparison, I have had this experience with Chinese motorcycle parts, people want to save money on parts and go China. I assure you no matter how good the machining looks, there is a huge difference in their materials. They look good but you can twist and deform them with your bare hands

I run raptor LT's, and some from aliexpress.
Both work good so far.

If I was using it for somthing serious, anything from defence to just a match I would use the raptor just because I assume its stronger.
But for all the others, $13 vs $90 the difference adds up quick with multiple AR's that are just range queens.

Being left handed, I have to get a ambi handle of some sort right off the bat.

Only charging handle I have ever broken was a bcl. I like the bcm gun fighter which is not super expensive compared to some.

i have mortar cleared my BCL using the knock-off Rainer arms avalanche. It held up well. I've done the same with knock-off raptor handles.

if one of my knock-off CH accidentally ends up in a vice and some pliers accidentally start torquing it, i'll buy one, or two, or five more, and still have paid less than an real ambi CH.

Ok. So I'm not sure why a moulded aluminum part with a spring and another moulded aluminum part are so expensive. I was in the military for 10 years. I'm sure the C-7 had a run of the mill aluminum, lowest bid part that cost $7.99. Never seen one break. Never seen one fail to ####. Never seen one do anything fancy like light my smoke. Why are they $30+? $100? That's crazy. What does the extra $70 get you? Ambidextrous? I know whether I'm a lefty or a righty.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for bling. If it's got some funny sh!t laser etched or a really badass logo or powder coated blood red that's cool. But is there any practical difference in charge handles that I don't know because I only ever used a G.I.?
I'm asking because I'm putting together my first build and I didn't think there was any science to it. Marketing? Hype? Save my money for a better trigger? Help a guy out here.

There’s your problem pal. If you didn’t smoke you would have the extra cash to play with the big boys. —Dieseldog!

I don't get why any right-handed person NEEDS an ambi CH. How often do you need to rack the CH shooting with your left shoulder? Do your AR jam that much?

I don't necessarily need AMBI but I have one on all my AR's, because I like to accessorize my AR's and when buying an aftermarket charging handle most of them are AMBI. As far as I know when I bought my Raptor charging handles there is no non-ambi option

I love my BCM Gunfighters on my rifles at home and work C8. Feels better than a stock unit in every ways. Doesn't matter a lot if you shoot from a bench but if you run your rifle and attend courses and matches, a good charging handle is worth it.

Locking the bolt back by hand is awkward as ####, an ambi CH makes this much more ergonomic, also allows to keep your support hand out front while manipulating the CH.

The standard CH works fine if you use 60's shooting stances and manipulation techniques, but even if you don't, it has it's limitations and doesn't allow you to run the gun as efficiently as you could.

That said, not all my AR's sport ambi CH's, for the simple reason that I can't afford it. However, when I bought the original Rainier AXTS Raptor charging handle in 2013, it was an instant game changer, it made everything easier, faster and more efficient.
