Why are Glocks so expensive in Canada

I was looking at online U.S. companies and you can buy a G17 for $475. 17+1 capacity which is a dream in Canada. I was lucky with a G22 purchase a few months ago-- $608. But, nothing close since then. I really want a G17, but for some reason the 22's are always priced the lowest. In general they all seem to be way over $700. Add in our ridiculous taxes, shipping and you have a $900. gun! Geez!!!
On the other hand I seem to be able to find ammo at or near U.S. prices...sometimes even cheaper...that is, when you can get it.
 
An economist would be the best person to ask, but before comparing prices for any kind of goods, you need to take into account a few factors like salaries and cost of living. If you shop around in the U.S. You will see that it's not just firearms that are cheaper.

I've never heard of a firearms dealer extending a discount to any service other than Police or Military. I'll definitely be in contact with them.
 
WHY? Because we keep buying them at inflated prices. If we stopped clamouring to shell out big cash for them, I predict one of two things. First, the dealers would see a drop in sales and eventually lower the prices to move old stock that wasn't selling, and second, stop ordering that same stock BECAUSE it isn't selling! Be careful what you ask for. Maybe when Glock ownership has reached the levels of the SKS we'll see a drop in price, but unless someone comes along with a marketing scheme for another product that is so widely recognized and accepted as the 'gold standard', we're going to keep shelling out the cashish.
 
Perhaps a more accurate question - why is EVERYTHING more expensive in Canada. Dollars par for well over a year - cars and trucks still +/- 30% more expensive. Many assembled here. Bombardier - A Canadian company manufactures SeaDoo in Canada and charges us +/- 30% more than US. I sent them a letter asking why when angered while shopping for jet skis. Their response - "We price according to how our competition does in a given market". In other words - whatever the market will bear and since imported products such as Yamaha and Kawasaki suffer heavy import levies SeaDoo can afford to drive up their price and remain competitive.
Magazines and books (many of which are printed on our side of the border) still have 2 prices on them. We pay more because our government doesn't protect us from the piracy. They don't protect us because it permits them to roll in more sales tax.
I saved more than $20k + tax ordering my boat new from New Hampshire. Diesel cost me about $500 to have a weekend trip and go and pick it up.
It's a shame in many instances there are government hurdles and manufacturers blocks preventing us from purchasing anything more than groceries and clothes cross-border.

I cannot speak to current Canadian Glock prices, but 6-7 years ago Glocks were inching close to a $1000.

If my memory serves me correctly, I *think* Questar came into the market and dramatically lowered Glock prices for us- by skipping the Canadian distributor and importing them themselves from the USA.

Of course, this caused a rash of complaints among Canadian distributors and dealers, and it would appear that Questar was forced out of the "standard" Glock market.
 
My friend bought a boat from USA.

He did everything legally, and paid all the fees and taxes.

He still came out ten thousand dollars ahead or what the same boat would have cost him in Canada.

Most likely due to the exchange rate. After the rate went down, so did prices. Of course, we still pay more than the americans. Add our outrageous sales tax and we are getting raped even more. Welcome to Canada.

Still haven't figured this one out. A used gun is worth more than the same one that is brand new. And you don't have the risk involved in buying from a store than from someone on the EE.
