Why are Glocks so expensive in Canada

I was looking at online U.S. companies and you can buy a G17 for $475. 17+1 capacity which is a dream in Canada. I was lucky with a G22 purchase a few months ago-- $608. But, nothing close since then. I really want a G17, but for some reason the 22's are always priced the lowest. In general they all seem to be way over $700. Add in our ridiculous taxes, shipping and you have a $900. gun! Geez!!!
On the other hand I seem to be able to find ammo at or near U.S. prices...sometimes even cheaper...that is, when you can get it.

........... $900 sounds expensive, hahaha Down south in Venezuela the same G17 17+1 will cost you $3000 maybe more if you look for a G19, of course money is nothing when ypu are using something to defend your own life

why buy a glock for 800 bucks when m and p's are about 650 for a range kit, and its basically a more ergonomic glock with a better trigger

I cannot speak to current Canadian Glock prices, but 6-7 years ago Glocks were inching close to a $1000.

If my memory serves me correctly, I *think* Questar came into the market and dramatically lowered Glock prices for us- by skipping the Canadian distributor and importing them themselves from the USA.

Of course, this caused a rash of complaints among Canadian distributors and dealers, and it would appear that Questar was forced out of the "standard" Glock market.

Yup! I still (not so fondly) remember going to a gun dealer and saying "I'm looking for a Glock 17...my budget is $1000.00" and they'd go "that's not going to get you one".
I remember seeing a Glock 21 for like 1200 bucks. I seem to recall Sig P226s in the 1300-1400 dollar range, too.

That's ironic, given that Questar is now the only one with Glocks still priced close to 1000 dollars. Heck, they have a Gen4 Glock 19 priced OVER 1000 dollars now. I guess they didn't get the memo. XD

The glocks Questar offers would be prohibs in their normal barrel lengths. They place aftermarket barrels in the guns. Not exactly a cheap thing to do but for many Canadians it is the only way to own such guns.

I am aware of that. But Dlask is offering the same pistols, with the same barrels, and the same 3 magazines for $825. That's a full $225 dollars less. So... is it my turn to thank you for coming out, or can go about this without each assuming the other is an idiot?

Some aftermarket barrels can be had for around $125 in the US so a retailer buying bulk should be able to get barrels for about the same or less.....plus the original glock barrels being swapped out must be worth something?

Questar just had some glock 19's a couple of weeks ago that they were selling at $825. But they did'nt last to long at that price.

That sale only came about after Dlask started bringing in G19's at a non sale price around $800.00.
I don't blame people for maximizing their profits, but it' refreshing to see a retailer that is happy with a fair profit.

That's the problem, they don't give you credit for the Glock barrel that came with the gun.

It's back at $1000 for the G19's.

retarded question.

by the time import is done, shipping, coversion barrels for the compacts, and add a profit margin it adds up. I am sorry, but I do not expect anyone to work for free. Oh wait you do, want to come and do some work around my house for free?

I doubt Dlask is working for free...

I'll take a wild guess and say that offers and demands play a big role in the higher price in Canada... Kind of like we also pay more for our motor vehicles, electronics and the likes.

Heck, Lipsey's probably sells more guns in a week than all the Canadian market in a year.

Gen 4 G19 - $825 from Dlask.
Gen 4 G22 - $692 from SFRC (inventory clearance deal).

Does not seem too bad to me. It does matter how cheap something is if there is no stock.
