Why are Marlin 1894's more expensive than the Marlin 336C?

It's smaller and uses less metal, why is it more expensive than the top of the line 336?
 
I'm guessing it's seen as a specialty item. I'd bet the 336 outsells the 94 about 25 to 1 or so. That is starting to change as the .30-30 becomes a bit less popular in new rifles.
 
The 94 is an old school design that came out before the modern era of designing parts around the ease of manufacture. The difference is shop time is going to cost a lot more then the pound or 2 of steel.

I would agree that the different markets that they are made for would have a lot to do with it too. Personally I find the 336 butt ugly compared to the 94 with its bolt fitted the way it was intended.
