Why are Mosin Nagant m38/m44s so expensive?

I mainly got them to help complete my Soviet Firearm Collection (only missing a Nagant Revolver, SVT-38, original Soviet produced M91 Dragoon and Infantry Rifle (not converted to 91/30 specs) and oddly enough a TT-33.

With you .... And no harm in adding a few pictures to this thread.....

The m38 came out to about $180 when you bought the trade ex 5 pack last year.

Another dealer had m44's for $200 earlier in the year

They are both really nice rifles

Because they magically shrink the recoil on a conventional magnum hunting round.
Shoot an M44 for a while...nothing else. Go buy a larger hunting round and..." Hmmm, that didn't have much recoil...not what I expected it too"
Then get rid of it before you realize that it does have a big shoulder wallop.
That's what I did; my daughter got to shoot the new 7mm Rem Mag and replied " It doesn't kick that much!"
Guilty as charged

Thats a nice little collection, and its conceivable to obtain for someone who is just starting to collect. They are the cheapest to shoot, buy and find ammo for. 4 of them take the same bullet, and its easy to find in commercial loads in soft points for hunting. I hunt all the time with my Mosin.

Fine I will add a pic, it isn't the best and I had to crop out the Non-Soviet but you get the picture. I will do a better one in the future when I complete the collection until then here it is.

In terms of collecting it, it is a good gateway (that is what it was for me). My priorities are now with the Swiss and Swedish firearms (which are also pretty good prices and relatively easy to acquire) but if I see the things needed for the Soviet one at a good price then I will take it.

i bought my polish factory 11 rifle back in the 80's and it was brand new. i only paid $110 for it. sadly that was one the few rifles i sold that i regretted doing had a scope base made for it and bought a Burris 2 1/2 power scout scope with german #4 reticle. boy she shot with reloads. offhand at 100yds i could hit an 8'' circle all day long with no misses.

Literally? Its bang for the buck! The full sized 91/30 = average rifle firing.
But the M44 or 38 carbine? Huge muzzle blast and fireball! Makes it a more fun rifle to fire :) And unless youre standing behind the shooter..ie if off to the side..you will feel the blast hit you and the ground youre standing on like when I took this vid...kinda cool. This old sled dog really steals the show and everyone is lining up wanting to try her out over and over. You dont get this with a 91/30. We had prob 12 different rifles and a shotgun between friends at the camp to share and try out last month.....all I can say is I didnt bring enough 7.62x54r to meet the demand. Everything else was ignored after I introduced my Polish gal. :)

Heres a grainy pic I extracted from cell ph vid of a friend firing my Polish gal with surplus Chinese ammo.
Hope you are NOT in B.C. we have a FIRE BAN in effect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol
