"I learn from the late Jack O'Connor that the markup on guns is on the order of 400 percent. That is to say, the list price of a firearm is about four times the cost of production."

They are not. You are hallucinating.
Lazy post, no details, no link, no pics.
So I am looking for new sights and looking around, the recommended ones are all about $150 or more. Why are two little pieces of plastic so costly? Is it even worth $200 to upgrade stock sights if you're never shooting in the dark?

I didn't realize Tritium was a radioactive substance so yeah I can see a higher price for those. Like I said my rant is over so I will just smile and nod :)

And this is the problem with most rants like this one... a lack of knowledge as to the manufacturing requirements of firearms parts.

Manufacturing small parts in small numbers to tight specifications is difficult and expensive. Tritium, being a highly regulated substance, is expensive to handle and difficult to work with. As mentioned, fiber optic sights are significantly less expensive, ranging from $60-$100 in Canada, depending on the manufacturer and if they are adjustable or fixed.

You think that's bad. Buy a boat.... Oh yeah it's specific to this model none of the others fit, well you need it there and it's molded and blah blah and it's 500 bucks....lol.same thing. Large yet specifically segmented market and specialized parts for specific models within the segments. Start ringing up the dollar signs
