Why are so many almost new Zastava M70 rifles on the EE?

I am a CRF Mauser action fan, and own several Brno's. Mausers and some Ruger MKII's. I was considering adding a Zastava M70 in 9.3 to the collection. I have seen many of these rifles ( in other calibers) for sale in recent months on the EE. Most have been shot very little, or not at all. Wonder what the original owners didn't like about them?
 
The flavor of the month club could be changing.
I have had Parker Hales, CZ's a Browning with a Remington 700 in the stable all at the same time.
When taking two different guns to the range at the same time the differences between the firearms caused me some discomfort
in my ability to shoot either gun with accuracy and comfort...
Then again, thats my excuse.
If you like the Zastava and it is in the caliber your looking for and it is cheap enough, buy it who cares why others are selling them.

I suspect Longwalker is interested in learning of potential issues that would not otherwise present themselves during a casual handling at the gun counter.

looch, if he where to buy said gun here on CGN's EE section all fine upstanding CGN members would disclose if in fact there was a less than satisfactory result from owning the gun and thus selling on the EE.
How many guys ask about Remington 700 SPS or the Remington Express shotguns and there are loads and I mean loads of negative replies on how poorly constructed they are, yet many will go and buy them and either have great success or they will complain at how poorly made they are even though they have been warned.
But, I do see your point and I didnt even think to articulate it in my first post to his question.

I sold mine after trying it out and loving it, nothing to do with accuracy or function I just wanted something prettier. They are nice guns for the money. Only thing I would do is replace the hockey puck like recoil pad.
 
Zastavas are great rifles, I own 3... They are a big step up from any of the budget rifles and are readily available in many calibers..... That being said, they lack the refinements of some rifles that are roughly $200 more in price and tend to be kept and used until such times as the owners can afford the higher end options with better optics....

Nicer wood would help me like them more.
 
Brings up a good point though.... people like myself who like wood stocked rifles tend to buy these versus their plastic counterparts, but are always on th elookout for something similar with nice lumber.... You do see many more wood stocked ones up in the EE than the plastic ones....
 
like Superbrad i like wood on rifles. i had the chance to get some nice Zastava that i tried to sell for getting nicer wood to put on one zastava. as they are lefty and i didnt want to give them away i kept them and certainly will become different kind of rifles that they were at first, but the action is still a very good one.

the project is a dual 300 and 375hh with nice wood and real recoil pad ... that is a project and it will take time ...
 
I think the affordable price let's people think, "What the hell, I'll try it." Quit a few more Zastavas will sell compared to more expensive stuff, especially in "adventurous chamberings".

I've mentioned many times I used one briefly in Africa in .458, it's still earning a living there in the hands of a professional hunter. He wished he'd bought an RSM (he used mine and liked it) or a Model 70, as he'd done a few expensive upgrades on the Zastava (stock, sights, safety I believe). But if you're not out to turn it into a gem, and simply want a decent tool they are excellent beside a Savage or the like. I think they offer excellent value on a tough as nails CRF action. Thumbs up.
 
Weren't the original or first up Z's selling for just over four brown ones?
The name in itself keeps me away from them.

I bought a new 7X57 Full Stock Zastava sight unseen... never fired it... I was unhappy with the wood primarily, but also the fit/finish and overall feel, as compared to Ruger M77's...

They are certainly not rugers, but they dont carry the ruger price tag either...... mine are in calibers I wanted to try now that I am getting into reloading.... 6.5 x 55, a 270 (sold)..... and a 7 x 57....

I was going to pick up a 375 but I am thinking these will all get sold so I can pick up a nice 375 and a 9.3 x 62 for this years winter project....

All have been accurate serviceable rifles and certainly a step up from an axxis or the other bargain basement stuff.... but they are nothing that will turn anybody's heads thats for sure....

That being said, my z5 in 22lr is the most accurate out of the box 22 I have ever owned and it wont be going anywhere.... its too bad boyds doesnt make stocks for these....
