seriously. for a used factory take-off that would fetch ~$50 in the states people ask $150-250 here in the EE. wtf?
why are take-off barrels so high-priced here?

or more like 'seller asks price, potential buyer laughs and closes the thread'.
There are take off barrels that are nearly worn out which tend to go cheap for use either by a penny pincher or to be used for tightening fanbelts on your car. Then there are new barrels removed by a individual who is building a heavy barrel varmint rig.
Curiously these new barrels have a higher asking price.
I was at a gunshow in the states last week and saw so called "National Match" barrels on tables that had been on Garands or M-14s. They might have been match grade when they were new but they sure as hell were not taken off because they were still putting all the bullets in the X-ring.These barrels were going cheaper than new in the wrap barrels. I wonder why ,eh?

Some people think more of their barrels than others... but I think the prices have come down in recent years...
I don't bother trying to buy take offs to resell anymore... to hard to get them cheap enough and too hard to sell them for any profit... fewer people installing factory barrels... more installing new custom barrels...

if they were reasonably priced, more people would consider it.
the price of a new custom match barrel as mentioned earlier is irrelevant. we are talking used factory barrels that have been removed. the price of the barrel should be in relation to the price of the used gun, not the price of a new match barrel. a new match barrel is pretty much guaranteed accuracy while a used take-off is like playing the lottery.
not to mention its a frikken used barrel - why did you take it off the gun? already it is suspect: people dont generally take off .5 MOA barrels but most definitely remove 1.5-2 MOA ones. also, ever notice that every used gun on the EE has only 3-4 boxes of ammo through it, or 100-200 rounds fired? convenient that you cant visually tell the difference between a gun that has fired 200 or 2000.
if a brand new 700 SPS is $500, youd have to be out of your #%@$ing mind to spend $150-200+shipping on a used take-off barrel from one and then pay a gunsmith to install it.

I think it all boils down to supply and demand in this country. If you need or want it today there is a price to pay, if you need it in six months well then fill out the proper paperwork. Just because you don't want those barrels some one else will gladly pay for it. The average cost and correct me if I am wrong Dennis to get a custom barrel fitted to an action is around $800.00. To most that would warrant the purchase of a new gun then to rebarrel an old gun. If you can get a factory removed barrel and have it installed for half that price then it seams like more of a bargain.

so you can build a used 700 for $400?
then why not just buy the gun for $500?
also, if your gunsmith is charging you $350 to install a bolt-action barrel, it might be time to look for a new gunsmith.
a new, custom match barrel made by a precision barrel maker should not even be mentioned in the same paragraph as a used factory take-off from a low-end remington.

In some cases it costs as much to install a take off barrel as it does to install a new one...
Gaillard sells his match grade blank for $375 delivered in Canada... My price for installing that barrel using the most precise methods starts at $225. Bedding and action work is additional...

I guess maybe I have been out of the loop for a while, but I have MANY brand new take off 700 barrels. Since Remington no longer sell just actions I have to buy rifles just for the actions.
In my shop we ask $150.00 for them, but I must emphaize these are NEW not used barrels.

I just picked up a M14 standard length SAK NM gently used take off barrel with a TE of 1.5 ....... I could easily flip that barrel on this site for...... 250.00 to 300.00 because of the demand for m14 non chinese parts...... I'm keeping it because she only cost me 65.00 
and, has LOT's of shooting life left in her for my shooting needs. I figure i got a steal of a deal...... so..... not all take off barrels are going for "too much money" round these parts.
