The rifle is <300 bucks in the US and some of the CGN sponsors want $500 bucks for the same rifle here in Canada? Common guys, this is ridiculous. Exchange rates are high and have been for a while so the price should be around $340 at the most which is close to what I paid locally.

Even the exchange forums sellers want more than what it costs for the firearm new from the store so hold on to your money and find sellers that are fair in their pricing techniques. Never mind pricing it with (or above) the Stevens because they are both entry level rifles.

Do Bass Pro sell online or over the phone. I can't find firearms on their web site.
I don't need an Xs7 but for $329 ....

Call the Calgary or Toronto store and they will do the order over the phone. For some reason their website doesn't list any firearms but could have something to do with stores being in both the US and Canada?

The trigger on these rifles are very nice indeed!

I got one (in .243) from BPS (Bass Pro Shop) in Calgary for $329+GST=$345

great deal on a light well put together back up rifle :))))

BTW: trigger on my rifle is about 2.5lbs now, but with long pull :(

This is a fair question, so let me add a commercial perspective to this phenomenon. I get asked all the time why there is such a difference between US pricing on the barrels I sell too.

Importers of US-Made firearms have two significant obstacles: The fact that the US Department of State is now charging thousands of dollars for the export licenses required for the manufacturers to ship out of country. This cost is reflected in your price tag.... a big outfit like Bass Pro can absorb that better than a small specialty retailer.

Secondly, firearms and receivers have to be shipped by an approved firearms shipper, and this is always BY AIR. This adds substantially to the bottom line on US made rifles.

It is also very common for dealers in Canada to get nothing in the way of wholesale discounts, in other words small quantities of product are often sold to Canadian dealers at or near US retail prices!

Shipping, international handling and permit costs are all on top of the fact that realistically, we have still been coping with between 8-10% merchant exchange rates.

I can't - and won't - speak for all dealers of US made firearms and parts, but bringing this stuff up here is far more expensive and complicated than most realize. That's reality. You can support Bass Pros and Wholesale Sports that do not sponosr forums like this, and who serve you with minimum wage clerks, or you can deal with smaller specialty outfits - that if they were paid 25 cents for every piece of (free) technical advice they dispensed, they would never need to sell their products.

Probably, but I'm willing to overlook it.:p What kind of turn around time did you have from ordering until receiving?

They shipped Canada post Xpresspost and took three days to get to me which was about the same time frame as TradeEx when I placed an order with them. Ask for Maegan in the Calgary store, she is in charge of the mail-order side of things and is very easy to deal with.

Thanks for the input Obtunded. I also support CGN dealers and will continue to do so but prices will have an influence on where I shop.
