Why Bother Hunting.................

I was actually spotting for a friend when he saw it.
He kept asking me what the date was, then started asking me to go and get a deer tag.

When I finally saw it in the spotting scope.........I was shocked and surprised.

The conversation whent something like this:

"can I just wound it?"..............NO.... dont shoot.
"what if I just shoot it a little bit?"..........NOOOOOOOOO
"well, maybe I'll just scare it to death".......I'm telling you, DONT shoot.
"it may be the only one I see this year"...........too bad....put your safety on.
"where is the RO?".............nevermind, it's not deer season.......dont shoot.
"these new loads are fast enough to blind it, then we can just walk it into the van".............For crying out loud.........
" ok....ok...I won't shoot it, what about a richochet ?"................Lord help us, we're going to jail

This crap whent on for a while, the RO finally drove out and scared it off.

There are deer all around the Brandon range, both down range and around the benches. Seems like either natural selection is working overtime to winnow the heard or simply that urbanization is desensitizing the deer.

We had a dall sheep ram living right above the silhouette range here a few years ago. Less than 600 yards from the benches.

It was pretty neat, being able to take folks up there to see that ram. It was there for three summers, and then some jerk shot it. The guys at the club were furious!

if it was a range member, I hope he got a life time ban from the range, and an real good azz whoppen!

We have mule deer and bear wander through the range at PoCo too.

It's almost funny the amount of noise you have to make to get them to clear out.... bear bangers etc.

They don't mind the shooting because they know they are safe and are used to it. The RO's pretty much have to head down range yelling at them half the time to get them to clear.

It's nice living in a part of the world where you you have involuntary cease fires due to wildlife. I don't complain.

We had a wild squash plant (Ithink they're called Gourd) growing on one of the berms.
It came all the way down to the range road. About half a dozen of them.

Some jerk decided to use them as targets, beeing about 75-100 yards away, it took 4-5 reloads to hit them with an SKS.

The RSO was standing behind him for the last few rounds. Needless to say, he was asked to leave.
The icing on the cake? The guy got pissed off, grabbed his SKS and started walking away.
The RSO told him to stop, safe the gun first, the guy just kept walking........banned from the range !!!

Probably the same JERK that shot the ram...........
