I have every gun I need, to comfortably hunt every species. So why do I end up buying more guns?Is it a hobby? Is it a sickness?I can only shoot one gun at a time. Why do I buy a rifle if I already have one in that caliber? All I can say is that I enjoy shooting them. Some I keep, some I end up selling after going to the range once or twice. Is there any one out there with the same problem? What's your excuse?Because my wife is starting to wonder about all the long brown packages that get delivered.

I totally understand what you are saying, my wife says that I have ''shotgunitus'' which apparently effects some gun owners causing them to crave or even need more guns. Apparently I have an extreme case, sounds like you might have ''rifleitus'' instead?

MY WORST NIGHTMARE IS MY WIFE SELLING MY GUNS FOR WHAT I TOLD HER I PAID FOR THEM!

Some people collect stamps while other collect butterflies. Some collect empty beer bottles while others collect girlfriends.

A rifle collection is a LOT cheaper than a girlfriend collection especially if the wife finds out about the girlfriends ...................

Don't try and rationalize it just admit you like to collect firearms.

I used to own like 12 centerfires, then I cut it down to three, now I find myself creeping back up (currently five). I cant help myself. :jerkit:

Yes I know what u mean. I always crave more. Rifles, handguns, bows. I just seem to be going bankrupt. I think buying all my hunting and fishing equipment has kept me from getting into the housing market. Oh well at least I don't have to cut grass. But I do have alot of constant gun cleaning to do!

Don't fret about it anymore, just grasp onto reality, as Allen Lever put it so well, "He who dies with the most toys, WINS".

As far as the wife goes, buy her a new snow shovel or mop and maybe a new vacume cleaner, get rid of the dishwasher and washing machine, she just doesn't have enough to keep her busy if she has enough time to notice those few long brown packages. Oh, don't let her buy bread or pies or cookies anymore either, homemade ones are far better tasteing anyway and when you take a few to the range as treats for the guys, watch their expressions when you tell them how your wife fills her time. Oh, get a real good lawyer and medical plan as well before suggesting this to her. bearhunter

"...already have one in that caliber..." It's not about the calibre or cartridge. It's about the rifle. For example, why have a Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III and a No. 4 Mk I? Or an M1 Rifle and a 1903A3? Same cartridge. Different rifle. It's because they're not the same.
"...I have every gun I need..." Don't be daft. It's not a 'need' thing. It's a 'want' thing.

You owe it to yourself to get at least 2 more, think about it, presently you don't have rifles to use on sat or sun and from where I stand thats just not right!;)

I was in a gunshop today and spotted an older used rifle. I recognized the big white diamond on the pistolgrip as a Weathereby right away. I asked to see it. It's on consignment the young lady said. Dang if it weren't a .300, something I always kinda thought I needed. Beat up a bit but priced acordingly it made my knees weaken in that strange way they do just before I spend money that I know I shouldn't;) Couple weeks from now I'll pop in there and see if I can't just whittle that price down just a bit more and take a light with me to peek down the throat. She should push those .500+ BC 200gr bullets about 400+ fps than I can get right know in an /06. My oh my there's 40 or so in the vault now what would one more be eh!

I honestly do believe that for some of us it is an addiction. Me included. In fact, was talking to one of our more active memebrs about that on the weekend. At times in the past I have decided on the spur of the moment to buy a rifle that I neither needed or could afford. Doesn't make much sense at all really.

But as long as you can afford it, you can always get most of your money back out of the guns if you did decide to liquidate. Better than cocaine in that respect I suppose! :D

Wow grnhawg...you sure have some discipline there! I would have bought that rifle, loaded for it, shot it and sold it by now...no kidding.

I have got it bad!

Over the past two years I've made well over a hundred firearms purchases...mostly on impulse. Fortunately, I figured out fairly early on that I just need to own them for a little while, and I am happy. :) My overall collection hasn't grown much in volume, and I haven't spent hardly any money (although tens of thousands of dollars have flowed through my bank account - first one way, then the other...) But what a fantastic, truly inexpensive hobby! It is just great! Buy and sell, buy and sell...and keep the ones you really like. At least that is how I do it...and yes, every single week sees several brown wrapped packages come to my door. My wife has completely given up trying to keep track (thank goodness).

Ok, I just bought a shotgun off of another CGN and furthermore, I just bought an extra deer barrel from SIR this afternoon as well. There's NO shotgun only in my area so why the need for a slug gun let alone another shotgun when I already have "8" perfectly good ones in my safe? Same with muzzleloading, here in ALberta the only season I can recall is on CFB Wainwright, but I had to buy a T/C Encore 209x50 SS plus three extra centerfire bbl.'s
I'm a very sick Man, when does it stop?

I hear you...I have two new handguns on order, 2 used ones coming (1 from the EE here), so last week I bought another rifle (from EE), then Sunday night I bought another handgun off the EE, then Monday morning another from the EE and yet another from an online dealer...and now, having sold a rifle last evening I felt the need to snatch up a Browning BAR in .300 WinMag that I saw online this morning. YIKES!
