Why can't I find the 'right' rifle for me

I had the same misgivings..... The iron sights are really nice and the white dot really sticks out....... That being said, on an expensive hunt, it's always nice to have them as backups....... And I was pleased with the final scoped outcome.....

Is this a 338 ? If so you will notice a real difference if you ever shoot it without the brake, that is if it's an effective brake.
I tried shooting groups with my 28 Nostril with and without the brake, 0.30 " without the brake and 0.40 " with the brake, very little difference but recoil was sure noticeable, about like a 243 with the brake and more than my 300 mag without.
No brake really rattles the dentures...

It's a .338 indeed Kevan...I will see what happens when the brake comes off and the thread protector goes on......

I am routinely shooting the .375 H&H without issue without a brake....... And have no problems...... I can now put all of my shots on dinner plate at 150 yards give or take over irons.... And have a scope on the way for it....... I will say it is taking practice for sure.....

To be honest, this is the first rifle I have ever bought that has a brake, so just having fun playing with it........

I spent a lot of money looking for the perfect rifle in a perfect caliber.
I'm down to .308, .30-06 and 7mm Rem Mag. I really like the Sako A7 right now. But I'm sure if I ever get to hold a Sauer, I might change my mind again.

Have you ever thought about custom making a rifle for yourself in even a wildcat cartridge. I did and I have no regrets.

After reading a some of this thread (not all) seems to me something custom built is the way to go.

Don't see why you couldn't get exactly what you want going this route. Am I missing something ?

Thats true customs are hard to sell. Even in factory calibers. In my customs they would be the last to go in the collection. I have 3 and with those 3 anything on the north american continent would be in big trouble. LOL Honestly customs are fun to build because of you have everything in your control.

I have plenty of times, but with all the choices out there now a days I don't know where to start.

How does this sound
-CRF short action (Win 70 possibly)
-CDI bottom metal with AI mags
-Timney trigger
-Stock, not sure but something light
-6.5 Shilen 22" bbl

Missing anything?

I was going to go the custom build at one time but fell in love with the flexibly of the T/Cencore
I just made a trade for a 300wm barrel to add to the flexibility of my setup

But now that I'm thinking about it I did pick up a used ATRS modern Hunter 6.5CM plus a spare upper in 338fed not to mention the modern varmater I have on order

I can only relate my perfect rifle choice. I picked up a 444S Marlin in the 70's. It balanced perfect, fit perfect, and was in a cartridge that would deal with anything I might bump into in the bush. So many cartridges can do the job that a perfect cartridge is not as important to me as fit. balance, and appeal to my eye. After mounting a receiver sight on the 444 it was a perfect rifle for me.
