Why Can't I Use a Sig 9mm Mag in My Sig P226R .40 S&W Pistol?

I own a Sig P226R Elite .40 S&W and have a .357 Sig barrel and EFK Fire Dragon 9mm conversion barrel.

The barrels all fit perfectly. However, when I try to insert a Sig 9mm mag into the pistol to use with the EFK 9mm conversion barrel, this mag won't stay solidly in place. If I hold this mag in place, the slide won't stay back when I #### the pistol.

I know you can use 9mm rounds in the .40 S&W/.357 Sig mags but shouldn't as the shorter extractor in the pistol will probably not extract the empty 9mm casing every time I fire the pistol. Any solutions to my problems? Thanks.

Odd I can use 9mm Sig 226 mags in my .40cal 229, but not the other way around. Have you compare the mags side by side?

Don't have an answer for your current scenario but I have used a 229 40S&W/357Sig mag loaded with 9mm rounds to full capacity with a 9mm conversion barrel in a 40S&W 229, no issues at all with extraction, worked perfectly.

Mag Problems

I found a Sig-made 9mm mag deep in my ammo chest and it fits in my P226 .40 S&W perfectly. I'm guessing the Mec-Gar ones made in Italy I tried before are slightly different and maybe that was the problem? Time to order a couple more Sig-made 9mm mags I guess.

I will also try using my .40/.357 Sig mags loaded with 9mm rounds next week at the range and let you know how things work out. Thanks for all the help. Cheers,

C:)
