Why can't we hunt with handguns?

I'd just like to be able to shoot my pistols out at the farm. Some nice steel targets. I'm sure someday.. way down the road.. shooting paper at a range will bore me.
Some dirt berms. Some steel targets.. oh.. CFO inbound.. sigh..
Probably easier to setup a legal personal range(almost impossible) then get them to allow hunting with pistols(HAH not going to happen).

Though if the population of Canada keeps shifting to the Prairies, we MAY see it as it seems like the Prairies have a different view on firearms then Ontario/Quebec...

way down the road? Damn im 2 years in... Only shoot paper to sight in and if I want a group therapy day.

Nothing more satisfying the the 'TWACK" 'BONGGGGG"

We shouldn't lose hope, remember we DID HAVE HAVE HANDGUN HUNTING IN CANADA .. until P.E.T. ruined everything firearms related ....

It's not about the choice of firearm (I've helped people track deer for a couple hundred yards after being shot with a rifle), It's about choice of shot

[/IMG]Ruger Old Army 50yds, deer went less than 30yds down hill Not a huge buck, but it's meat in the freezer. Yes I'm in the states on my land in Georgia. Where this year can can now hunt with suppressors on private land, and now we can hunt all game in Florida with suppressors. All it takes is get the ball rolling and don't let the moss grow.

And just to add, I have shoulder, hip, and neck issues, if it were not for hunting with a handgun I would not be able to hunt.

Is there any logic at all behind this? I mean, theres a special deer season for bow+muzzle loaders, why should handguns not be allowed then too? It would make much more sense to buy a bigger, more powerful revolver like the S+W 500,if you could actually use it for something beside blowing bigger holes in paper. The skill required to get a deer within 40 yards to shoot with a big revolver would be the same as required by bow hunters. I just don't see the logic here.

Why? Because you are a terrorist who is with the pedophiles. There is no logic. All parties abandoned evidence based policy a long time ago. Now everything is a wedge issue and the parties are for and against based on appealing to the demographic most likely to vote for them.

It's all about brainwashing and local politics.

Another fine example from the UK. Where archery hunting of deer had been effectively banned since about 1980.

Because it's considered a "cruel" form of harvest!

From the land that firstly championed the long war bow and inspired the Robin Hood tale.

Now that's another good effing joke from over there.......;)

No animals on the range! And they'd probably be gone before you got your pistol out of the locked case...

Of course I am poking fun at our ridiculous laws.

There is a fish and game officer who shoots at our range. He says it's the federal gun law, TARGET SHOOTING ONLY OR COLLECTOR. There is provisions in the law to carry but good luck getting a permit. Change the law, set standards for caliber etc., firearm visible at all times, and we'd be good to go.

Because it is illegal.

You can't get a federal ATT and besides that, the majority of the provinces prohibit hunting with a handgun.

It's not that hard to figure out.

That said, wouldn't it be interesting to be able to carry a .22 and be able to pot the odd partridge that crosses your path when deer or moose hunting?
Oh well, Maybe in my next life.

Sometimes, I think it has as much to do with some of our own, who push the envelope, too far, too soon.
I recall a conversation in the Ottawa Police cafeteria, (Fuzzy's) about some "hunters" who, when it was allowed in Ontario, entered a bar a certain bar in Kaladar, wearing their holstered handguns.
Sometimes we can be our own worse enemies.

Yes that would be quite civilized. The ability to wilderness carry should not be this difficult. That said, and not like i am happy to settle, but i do have friends in the UK and Australia...

Same governmental logic applies to why we cant

Have sound mods
Night hunt for varmints
Carry a firearm for wilderness protection
30 round mags
The list is endless ......,..

while i think the current hand gun laws are ridiculous....i honestly have no desire to hunt game with a hand gun, the only exception would be bear hunting with a bow. if i were to wound something then well...that bow is mighty slow to reload and having a pistol would be a comforting protection. otherwise its kind of a meh...each to its own situation for me. it would however be very nice to be able to shoot a restricted firearm on private property though

There is no logic. our "betters" didn't approve and "Presto!": not allowed. My understanding is that Turdeau the Elder is the one responsible.

LOOOOOOL well put man, well put...BTW, did you "purposely" misspell Trudeau (TURDEAU) ? Even if you didn't.....LOVE it ! ! ! ! :)
