I am thinking about building a twin of sorts for my 10/22 sbr

and not sure where to start, can i legally have an existing barrel shortened, or do i need to buy an aftermarket barrel? where to find one?

which bolt action rifle would make has a large aftermarket selection, and a good starting p

and no.

I already had a short norc, but no aftermarket support.

You can rebarrel, if you keep oal over 26" in firing condition. You can shorten a barrel to just over 18". Go shorter, and the rifle is prohibited.
You don't mention caliber.
There are chassis systems available for various bolt action rifles, either rimfire or centerfire. Have a look at MDT's offerings.

Well you legally cannot shorten a 22LR barrel shorter than 18" if you got a bolt. Have to find one that a blank, to start from scratch.

Would Ruger American Rimfire run 10/22 style barrel?

hang on, are you saying you cannot have a shorter barrel than 18 inches??? because i have a 12 inch on my 10/22.

do ruger bolt action barrels swa out as easy as the 10/22?

Hopefully, you bought the barrel that was manufactured at that length... cutting a standard 10/22 barrel to 12" is a big no-no...

Why?
Don't ask... there are no logical reasons.
- Just government bureaucracy at its best.

You can have barrels shorter than 18". You just CANNOT cut your existing barrel shorter than 18". You either need to start with a barrel blank, or use a pre fab shorter barrel.

I have a GSG-16 with a 9" barrel installed. Dlask made it from a barrel blank and it's legal. I cannot take my 16.5" factory barrel or any other off the shelf barrel and cut that to 9". You can have as short of a barrel as long as the OAL is 26".

Shorty Bolt: CZ 457 or Tikka T1, both can fit into a chassis I think, both have factory 16" barrels.

A stock 16” barrel T1X is about 33 1/2” and one put into a MDT LSS-RF gen 2 chassis with a Magpul CTR stock fully collapsed is just shy of 31”. Not really shootable with a scope at that length, a red dot maybe but feels very awkward with the super short LOP.

That being said, the T1X 16” barrel overhangs the LSS-RF chassis by 6”. If you could get a custom made 12” barrel for it it, it would look pretty cool.
