Why couldnt the FAL be saved?

It's most likely because the C1 FAL can be made to fire full-auto without changing out parts (there's a trick to it).

You won't hit jack squat if you do the trick, because the recoil just pushes the barrel up, and up, and up. You wind up shooting at the sun. The FN-FAL, unless you're in the prone position supported by a bipod, effectively becomes uncontrollable on full auto.

Of course, it's "scary looking" and has that evil pistol grip too.......
oh ffs you could make anything go fa including a piece of pipe given the time and resources ! Stop perpetuating this stupid. Idiotic thought process!

But that was the problem - a pipe needs parts to be full auto. The FN could go FA just with what you're carrying on you (or found on the ground, etc, etc). Yes, that's dumb, but so are the antis.

It's a shame... I was on the last Basic course at my Reserve unit to use the FNs... I'm glad I got the opportunity.

BTW Shredder, you said "You won't hit jack squat if you do the trick, because the recoil just pushes the barrel up, and up, and up. " Does that make it the original "thing that goes up?"

AR15 was spared while FN FAL was banned because it was no longer Canada's service rifle.

If it were the other way around, AR15 would have been banned.

DCRA did what they could. they are directly responsible for the fact that we still have AR15's.

A lot of people weren't around during those days, it was a miracle that AR15 wasn't banned outright at the time.
