Why did you buy the A2 upper and not the A4?

I love iron sights, but I like having the option of putting optics on without needing a cheek riser. That's why I like the A4 configuration.

To each, his own though! If I could only have one AR config that had to last from here to kingdom come, I'd go for the A2 upper with M203. Mmm..

???:confused::confused: 80's look? Uh, growing up in the 60's and 70's, there were plenty of A2s and M16s on TV and movies and in real life way before the 80's. It was even around long before I first breathed air in the mid 60's.
The A2's with adjustable elevation weren't introduced until the mid '80s. What you're probably referring to is the original M16 style sight that was only adjustable for windage, not elevation, although it did have a flip aperture for the further ranges. For some reason they are commonly referred to as A1 style sights.

i kick myself in the nuts every day. when i first got out of the army i moved to b.c. i started back into weapons training. anyway, castle armouries? i think. loved me i would come in and the fella would say hey look at this. it was always something great. well i've never been one to buy just to buy or say i have one. i think about can i get ammo, parts ect if shtf. well he had a colt car. short barrel everything. at that time resticted. witch i had. just didn't have the funds. thinking now, i would have been grandfathered into prohibited?

Yarr! It ain't the same with them big knobs on it! I use iron sights only and that's why I like the A2, but resale value hurts.
Yes and resale value seems to go rock bottom for 20" A2's without the bayonet lugs

Honestly, I just don't think it matters to me, I prefer close-to-stock ARs anyway, so the A2 would be just fine.

I really need to sock away some money for one of these. Too many damn rimfires. :)
