The 38-55 is full of goodness!

Why didnt you guys of CGN express the beauty of the 38-55 instead of dismaying the 375 winchester :D

i dropped the 10 grains of powder from my charge.... an went up to 8gr drop, an FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK yeah, I just had to come inside to log in an ask yas!!!

so to catch up on this, i down loadd the 375 BB XTR model 94 down to published 38-55 data with the same powder ad bullet weight, im using a 245gr hardcast for now... and AR2207... 4198..

im intending to use no further than say 150m, mostly under the 100m... on game! big game per say. elk /sambar...more sambar than elks :D :p

Peep sighted , traditional etc...

So with 18gr of powder, what a beauty to shoot , red pad included!
up to 20 and got a reasonable group for initial tests to confirm a bullet pulling mission is in order....... an re weigh some charges in :)

LETs hear your own 38-55 stories...... slow an steady certainly won the race for the Battle of the 38/375 in the model 94 IMO.

photos to come

Cheers

Riiight, so 1500 fps or so maybe lesser? 20gr 2207 245gr in moddel 94 20 inch? tube.. anyways.
100m Zerod, shoots like a dream, most accurate ive seen it? most likely due to no recoil anticipation... :) it wasnt crazy but it was reasonably sharp and stout i rekon.

target indicates all of this arvos shooting, few outer circles were some other loads 19 and 18 i think for usen them up, then put a heap of rounds down range an adjusted the sights after each few shots to get it into that centre nicer.
all good either way from 100m

cheers

I shoot two Cast bullets in my 38-55, a 265 grain GC, and a 285 grain GC.
Shot at modest velocities ( c. 14-1500 fps) these shoot very well indeed.
I am using a Williams Foolproof aperture sight at the rear, and a Firesight
on the front, and despite "older" eyes, can shoot these well. Dave.

Nice looking rifle and nice looking group too.
A little more finesse;) and you'll be tighter yet.
Rob

haha Rob, its a dandy of a shotgun pattern though! should be good for those turkey birds..

there target was swung round a few times and shot different loads and holds, thats a six inch circle tho, most got clsoe to that :D

smartrrrrs! haha!

how far are you guys shootin game with these rifles?

One doe whitetail with the 265 grain offering. She went only 2 steps and collapsed.
I shot my biggest Whitetail buck with the Barnes 255 gr Jacketed FNSP. He also only
took a couple of steps before expiring. Neither bullet was recovered.
BTW, when shooting open sights or apertures, you should hold right at 6 o'clock on the
round bullseye. That will get you more consistent results. Dave.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......

Well, i put a hardast boolit into this one This afternoon about an hour before dark on the shadey side of the mountain... i got lucky really and had three Sambar slink across the face above me as i was down in a gulley, i was waiting for some kangaroos to feed off, or move enough so i could slip past, when from above those big brown shadows slinked through the gaps in the trees.

But im really not Happy with the Front bead, the Gold dot has busted off, but its still very round...... Im guna file it to a point or flat top!

Good work, Rhys. I would replace that front sight with a Firesight, if you can get them in your part of the world.
I have on in fluorescent red, and it shows up really well in low light, even to my old eyes. Dave.
