why do Norinco's have such a bad rep?

Honestly I have owned a handful of norinco's from CQ AR to np-22 to a few 1911's, they have all worked and performed just as good as my kimbers have...Is it just cause it's "Chinese made"?

I like them for the price in just going to blast paper targets....

Some people dislike the ChiCom gun angle, some dislike the copying angle, some don't like the fact that Norinco's are typically less well finished and a bit crude in some spots and some people don't like it that a gun that cost less than half of their big name expensive version shoots about 95% as well.

I'm with you, OP. I have owned a number of Norinco's (currently have a CQ-A AR and a 5" 1911) and they have all worked fine for me and gone bang every time they were supposed to.

Poor quality control, some are good, some are bad. Its like rolling the dice. Fit and finish is not the best either. Had np29 and the finish looks like something made in a basement haha. Had a few malfunctions until i polished the feed ramp. I also have a t97 gen2. Built like a tank, no malfunctions and eats everything.

I've seen less threads about Norinco than NEA rants about quality and function :p

Most norinco hate comes from their rough finish. I see it a a great way to get into the sport for a newbie. And even then... Buy a 500$ AR and spend the balance you would spend on a higher brand and you can have an AR with 1500/2000 rounds, maybe more depending on the deal, and you will get more out of it than a 2000$ AR with zero ammo.

What difference between Kimber, SIG, Springfield Armories, Norinco, or dozens of other manufacturers over the years.
Copyrights for the 1911 pistol expired a hundred years ago.
Similar story with the AR-15, and a great many other guns.

The parts from my old Norinco 1911 work perfectly in my Colt 1943 GI pistol.
And vice versa.
They were made from the same drawings.
The Norinco 1911 steel, is better quality, than the wartime Colt gun.
Fit and especially finish varied widely over the years.
The current crop is pretty good.
Barrels are chrome lined and accurate.
Sights have improved, as have the triggers.
I love to build custom guns on a Norinco 1911 base.

probably because they "copied" some one else's design

I think your problem is that you're comparing them to a Kimber; anything looks decent next to a Kimber. :nest:

Joking aside, they just aren't refined. Shoot a real P226 side by side with the Norc clone and there's no contest which is superior. Spend a few hours cleaning up the clone and repeat and you'll be pleasantly surprised. The Sig will still be better but the margin is much thinner. What that's worth will be different to different people.

As stated above, great way to get into the sport and be able to actually shoot more if funds are tight.

I just don't plan to support a company owned by the Chicom government.

I have no intention to support Communism in any way.
Yes!
The Chinese government brings nothing good to the planet (from mass export of dangerous drugs, environmental destruction everywhere they land - like destroying coral reefs across the South China Sea to build military installations in international waters - destruction of institutions everywhere through corruption and graft), and I for one will do my level best not to feed that beast.
... and given Norinco are poorly made crap, avoiding them is easy!

My first firearm was a norinco np22 9mm. It went bang and put a smile on my face. I was somewhat embarrassed with what I brought to the range for months. Then I spoke to some of the ol'timers, they all owned or had owned norinco brand of firearms. Now I use my 9mm to test reloading workups, just in case there is a larger bang. Real Sig feels like butter in your hands compared to a norinco.

They have their place. Barriers to entry in this sport is very high. I like norinco because more people can enjoy the sport. They work, they just don't feel or look pretty... and they are made by communists... but so is your cell phone and T.V. No one complains about those devices!?

I'm guessing, then, that you have a minimum of electronic equipment in your house and never make a purchase at the dollar stores. Start checking the "Made in........." labels of anything you buy these days and you'll find that your choices are severely limited if you exclude everything that says "China". Good luck if you can stick to your principles but my guess is you won't be able to.

Poor quality control, some are good, some are bad.
This is my main complaint. I would go even further and say that some are near excellent and some border on unsafe. When you've got a 30,000-40,000 psi explosion going off inches from your face quality control is not something you want the manufacturer to skimp on. That being said I've had a few Norcs and generally was not unhappy with them.

I've owned a few Norinco 1911's & still have some. Never had a lemon yet.

IMHO, they're a pretty good bang for the buck.

Likewise...ar, np22, three 1911 .45, np40 and one np29...couldn’t really fault any of them...just a couple of razor sharp edges on controls..
