why do Norinco's have such a bad rep?

Norinco in my experience have poor quality control... poor finishing such as burrs and sharp edges, loose or lower quality internal parts. They function but will fail or require work.
Everyone throws NEA out there... well they seem to have issues and I avoid them too but their quality as far as finish and parts is quite nice they just seem to have a big failure rate from what seems to be some sort of design flaw. We could discuss for days.

The OP wants to know why the Norincos have a bad rap. Well it’s just because most of us have been drawn in by the price and taken a chance and most likely been burned. You get what you pay for in all aspects of life. My best example is the M14, I had one and the finish was horrible, sights were messed up, polymer stock was asthetically ugly, the action was sloppy and the guide rod was flimsy junk. I put time and effort into it and eventually gave up.

If you just plan on collecting quantity to have some cool stuff then go for it. But even shooting paper they aren’t worth my time.
Spend the extra and buy functional quality products. Not these Chinese clones.

I just don't plan to support a company owned by the Chicom government.

I have no intention to support Communism in any way.

Then buy american and support a totalitarian dictatorship if that works for you.

Good thing there are so many uninformed individuals such as AB with jaded opinions about everything and anything under the sun because it keeps the prices of Norinco low for the rest of us who are able to appreciate their value.

I like my Norinco 1911 9mm, bought it because I didn't like the S&W sd9ve I had and the Girsan MC29 was alright but I had to shoot 147 grain or it stove piped like crazy.

This Norinco 1911 9mm I picked up for less than the other two and it shoots anything, never had any malfunction, more accurate than the other two, fit and finish isn't so bad,
for a $350.00 gun, I'm happy and I have a 9mm in the safe that comes out to the range with me all the time.

I'm guessing, then, that you have a minimum of electronic equipment in your house and never make a purchase at the dollar stores. Start checking the "Made in........." labels of anything you buy these days and you'll find that your choices are severely limited if you exclude everything that says "China". Good luck if you can stick to your principles but my guess is you won't be able to.

It is definitely hard to do, but I try my best.

Honestly I have owned a handful of norinco's from CQ AR to np-22 to a few 1911's, they have all worked and performed just as good as my kimbers have...Is it just cause it's "Chinese made"?

I like them for the price in just going to blast paper targets....

I think that the guy in the next bay wiyh a high dollar colt is pissed that he is being out shot by a $400 norc And yes I own and shoot them

Just opinion. I have both NEA and Norc stuff that works perfectly while I also have both of their stuff that flops. But none of that is not fixable. Huge thumbs up for the Norc np22 (aka poor man's P226) All I need to 'make it great again' is just a simple part and at the end it was still way cheaper than the P226

Like most say its due to Norinco's spotty craftsmanship as it's either hit or miss. I have a 9mm 1911 Norc (polished parts and now one of my favs), have a gen1 t97 (no issues to date (just wish the WHOLE front sight could be drifted so front sight post could be centered in the globe), and had a jw25a which was nice but wood felt "meh" at best, sights were crooked, and action very stiff and gritty (sold it or those reasons). Overall Im happy with my Norcs as Ive had more issues with other big name brands you'd expect to have no issues with. To each their own

For those eager to support the Chinese government and its arms industry, perhaps spend a moment or two to read up on the grossly illiberal dictatorship you are so eager to support. Its record of human rights atrocities (e.g., they have imprisoned essentially all the foreign trained human rights lawyers now; they force harvest organs from political prisoners... etc.), the destruction of the marine habitat (and most of the reefs) in the south china sea to build military installaions (also destroying fishing grounds in international waters) ... the list is despressing and seemingly endless. It's a horrible place for ithe people who live there; a macabre example made it to the intl press recently with a story explaining a growing trend in China of drivers opting to kill accident victims (backing over them again after the initnial accident) as it is cheaper to pay one lump sum to a family for the death of a faimly member, than to pay for medical care for months/years. There are cc videos showing drivers pulling unconscious bodies under their car before driving over them to finish them off. One incident involved a young boy, another someone's grandmother, and drivers are not being charged (especially, if they have a couple bucks - one guy claimed he thought he was running over a bag of garbage). Imagine what happens to the collective psyche of a people who live in such a place. Now ask yourselves, what positive contribution has China made to the planet in , say, the last 40 years and why are you so eager to support such a barbaric system?

Is your np22 compatible with sig parts? All or just some?

Total fabrication due to China phobia and culture of china bashing.

Depending on which factory and when that particular np22 is made. In my case, most of the parts are interchangable but not all. For example, my sig mags fit perfectly compare to another person that I know who's magazine is a snug fit and will not drop free without some assistance.

However, every single part in my Norinco 1911 is interchangable with my Colt 1911.

Agreed. I wish people would live in China for a while before forming an opinion. I lived in China for a short period of time and it's not anything like what North American's make it out to be. I also have family who lived through the cultural revolution and the Sino Japanese war who are still alive and if you want to know the definition torture and inhumanity, all you have to do is to do some reasearch about the war and Japan's role. In the East, the Japanese were far worse than the Nazi's.

The Nazi's slaughtered 4.5 to 6 mil Jews. In the East the Japanese slaughtered 21 million Chinese. The Russians fought on both the Nazi's and Japanese and lost 28 million. Only reason why people don't have the same resentment towards the Japanese as they do the Nazi's is because even before Elnora ### put an end to the war the American's had a pland in place to rebuild Japan and make a tonne of money doing so.

Exactly this. Politics aside, Everyone I know who has bought a M305 or Norinco 1911 has had some sort of issues. Which of course isn't limited to Chinese firearms, but good luck getting any sort of warranty with one.

I replaced with the E2 grip kit that came with the new hammer strut + plastic spring cup. Also bought new short wolff 19lb spring. I wouldn't say it is all compatible. I know the SRT kit works since I tested it from a kit I borrowed from a friend but I ended up not needing it. Again, wouldn't try replacing the upper or barrel and etc. But just the hammer strut + spring uprade made the gun so much better to shoot.

Folks have placed the top end (Complete Slide & Barrel) from the 226 and the Norc frame I am told.

Take Care

I lived in S. Korea and China for 8 years in total - I also worked for Canadian government overseas (back when the dept was foreign affairs and international trade) in the region as well.
I suggest you spend some time learning about contemporary China and its impact on the region/world (militarily, environmentally, socially, economically).
