Why do we remove SELLING PRICE on the EE?

Just wondering out loud why everyone seems to remove the price on the EEs when something is SPF or Sold.

Would it not help price out things for both buyers and sellers if we knew what the going price was?

I have made it a point of keeping the price of my items visible, even after it is sold.

Nobody knows WHO bought the item, so why not make the price at least known?

Thoughts?

That is a good idea, but after your item is sold you are to mark your ad 'Pls remove'....your ad is now deleted by a mod as is your asking price.

This keeps ads up to date, and limits your searches to something that is available. Pet peeve is sending a pm about an item only to find that it has sold 2 months ago....

Yes, once it is sold firm it does get removed shortly and I do hit the please remove aftewards to clear it up.
But it would help knowing, the day it sells, and maybe one or two after, what it potentially went for.

Sometimes I see something that is SPF and I want to put a back-up bid in...but I don't even know the original asking price.
I have had a few buyers "disappear" after saying they will take it, I see no point on removing price when it is just pending funds....

Yes I agree with the SPF...just leave it so we all know. It is nice to have a base price for future items.
Once that it has sold...then just modify title, and wait for it to be deleted.

I remove it because so many newbies will pm me saying they will take it or ask a bunch of questions about it. Even when I mark it SPF people still pm.asking what i want for it. Gets anoying after a while. Just easier to remove the price or mark is SOLD.

Personally, I always leave the price until the deal is done because I find it annoying not being able to see asking prices. Why? Because in most cases it helps establish a known market value. I never change it to what it actually sold for if it wasn't the asking price. I'll just add SPF, then change it to SOLD after I get paid, and only delete the ad when the deal is complete and we exchange feedback. The deal isn't over until this point IMO. Now some say they are annoyed by people not adding SPF to the title because you don't know that until you open the ad. I never do this because in the old days mods would delete it before I wanted it removed. Not sure if this still happens but I know some people never bother changing their listings to Please Remove, so I would guess the mods still clean up ones that aren't marked as such.

ETA: ^ And not leaving the price really isn't that annoying at all - I got used to it ages ago! Everyone will just do as they want to do anyway, I don't see any big issues here.

I imagine because the 'torment' factor is altogether entirely too hard to resist. ;) In all seriousness, I usually tag the "$Spf" after because it's less editing. When I have money in-hand, the ad comes down so there's no confusion (usually this is a very small window).

Eh, I remove the price once the item has been sold to keep other people from thinking it's still available. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, and people don't seem to notice if you put Sold up in the thread title, beside the item description, and beside the price.

That's just me though.

I don't think it is a privacy concern because you are trying to sell something after all and putting pics and info about it on the internet here. So people knowing what it sold for should not bother anyone - especially the seller!
It WILL help establish market value and prices. It helps everyone. Buyers know what is a fair price, sellers know how to price things realistically. This is a WIN-WIN. Knowledge is power, ignorance does not help anyone. The cloak and dagger stuff is lame.
As for people that PM people even after it is spf or sold...when you cannot stop people from doing that anymore than you can stop someone calling in a radio show to complain about deer crossing signs on the road.

If you don't get the reference, listen to this numptee....

I used to remove the sale price, but I think I will start leaving it in the add. I get alot of PM's of curious gunnutz wanting to know what something went for.

For me, I always remove the price.

Asking price is not always selling price. With bartering and trading, it's hard to say what it actually sold for anyway.

Also, I find it annoying when people message saying how great of deal something was, or try to convince the seller to sell to them for more money.

The EE isn't an online firearms blue book.

Just my thoughts,

Totally agree, and too many people leave their adds on after they sell without linking in Pls Remove ...
