Why do we remove SELLING PRICE on the EE?

Twice I left the price up after accepting an offer. And both times other buyers tried to offer me more money to f.ck the other guy over and sell the gun to them instead. Not worth the headache, so I just put SPF now. As far as I'm concerned, once I accept an offer the gun is sold for that price. Honour and integrity mean something to me.

I remove it because so many newbies will pm me saying they will take it or ask a bunch of questions about it. Even when I mark it SPF people still pm.asking what i want for it. Gets anoying after a while. Just easier to remove the price or mark is SOLD.

I put SPF until buyer leave + feedback ....

And Its no one business what the final price was....

Fully agree to all the above quotes, and have had them happen numerous times. In fact to add to it I get messages (at least three per ad on average) of a newb saying "what's SPF mean?" no matter if the price is left on screen or not, and I tend to reply to all PM's as a general practice so this gets annoying.

As for establishing a market value, you're never aware of the final terms. The seller may put a $$$$ value on screen and agree to less, throw more stuff in, or include shipping. What's on the screen is rarely the final selling price. Besides what an item sold for on the EE doesn't determine market value, some on here overprice their items and if a newb pays that price is that the new established price that it should retail?

Oh first world problems are amusing.

Always remove it myself. Asking price is often not selling price, none of your business, post sale PM's get annoying quick, people try to one up the price, etc, etc. All apply.

BTW- the deer crossing this has been outed as a fake..

"That is a good idea, but after your item is sold you are to mark your ad 'Pls remove'....your ad is now deleted by a mod as is your asking price.
This keeps ads up to date, and limits your searches to something that is available. Pet peeve is sending a pm about an item only to find that it has sold 2 months ago...."

Totally agree, and too many people leave their adds on after they sell without linking in Pls Remove ...

Actually, what annoys me is when the ad is left up and the seller doesn't bother to PM you back letting you know one way or the other, especailly if you have indicated in your PM to seller that you would like to purchase the item.

I've always typed SPF over the asking price when someone has said they'll take it, and then "Pls remove" once money has changed hands. I won't broadcast to the board what the final deal was but I've always answered honestly to people who PM after the fact asking what the final sale price was just to keep track of the going rate for particular items.

I am guilty of removing price when SPF is inserted....however I am courious what the asking price was for the 3 full length BSA No1 Mkiis that almost sold instantly today. I didn't notice the add until it was too late.

It was listed for $225 for each of the Cdn SMLEs and $100 for the BSA. All prices included shipping. Pretty awesome deal and I wouldn't be surprised if one person snatched them all!

I leave the price with "SPF" in several places including the title until I have the funds, then it's immediately tagged "Please Remove". I get a few "you sold it too cheaply" or similar on occasion, but they're easily ignored. I can see why people remove the price - it avoids the busybodies, and the only downside is that people's curiosity is not satisfied.

Because WE are free to do whatever WE want with our ads within the confines of the board rules.

Next!

I totally agree with Dilligaf.....after it is sold...it is no one but the buyer and seller's business what it sold for. And trying to put in a bid after it is sold is pretty petty as rules say we are not to allow bidding, after all we are not EBAY.
SPF means SOLD and awaiting funds. Not SOLD and awaiting a better price. i have had late hanger ons PM me about a sale and state that they would have given me more, but if they wanted it that bad, they would have paid what was asked.

I always leave my asking price in the ad. On AR15.com it is mandatory as it helps establish current values. Someone said the EE is not a Blue Book? I beg to differ, it is the most accurate gauge of current value we have. Just because someone asks for a certain price doesn't mean they'll get it, so while $800 for an SKS skews the numbers it will never sell for that price so that number is to be discarded.

As for asking price not being selling price, let's be real here. If you ask for $2,000 for a rifle that's worth $1,000 you ain't gonna get your asking price. Any number of multi-page ads with two dozen BTTs is evidence of this. Eventually your price will come down to a reasonable approximation of what you sell it for, and for measuring current values that's close enough.

If this were my site, keeping the price in the ad would be mandatory. You don't have to say what you sold it for or to whom, but your asking price was viewable the entire time the ad was up. Absolutely no reason to take it off.
