Why do you buy Swedes????

The swedes surplused the AG42 before their M96 rifles..........if that tells you anything.

Why buy a swede? The same reason I buy swiss rifles......well made and accurate, and generally in great shape.

I had a couple of M96's, sold them as they were not in the condition I was told before hand. I'd buy another one if it was in nice shape.
They have a nice, mild recoil for the wussies........:)

I'd buy another in a heart beat, the only reason I let my husqa go is that some moron had milled the reciever for scope rings. When I find a clean one again she'll come to live beside the ag42.:D

I had 3 AG42B's....I keep the first one I got for sentimentil reasons and sold the other two, even though they were in better shape. What I don't get is the low maket price on the AG42B up here...with only 35,000 made, I expect them in 10~15 years to dry up, command more money, and then I'll really regreat selling my other two.

No matter any neigh-saying, their extreemly accurate and dependable.

Maybe his numbers are only No.1MkIII, not including No.1MkIII*?

also, you left out the 20K or so No.1MkV production.

Nope, they were inculded under SMLE/#1 figures by Skennerton.

#1 mk111 & mk111* were not broken down. The total for these two, british production only, is 4,665,000. BSA alone is given as c2,000,000.

You have to add in other #1 production inculding Ishi and Lithgow!

Wow.......

With these numbers being over twice that of Bowser's research, I'll take them. I think all my Swede values just rose proportionately..... :D :D

The source I used was only for comparative convenience, as a broad range of rifles from different countries were listed together. I never did any due diligence on the data, but I quoted the source in the original post.

Indeed, although there may be some'double counting' these are generally the numbers that the goverment paind for!

I do like swedes as well!

What exactly is meant by "combat losses" when it comes to available quantities of milsurp rifles. I'm sure many rifles that are combat losses recorded in the books from one country are recovered and become captured rifles for the next and will still may have ended up in the surplus market.

In my opinion, rifles like these which have markings indicating the actual history of the rifle (linking it to world events) is more interesting historically than a mint rifle that never left a warehouse. Ie- a moisin made in USA for Russia, captured by the Germans or Turks in WWI, provided to Finland, rebuilt by Finland and used against the Soviets in WWII. Now thats a historical collectors item with a story.

That said I still love the Swedish Mauser. It may not have an exciting history, but it was a notable rifle of supreme quality.

Combat losses? I have what's left of a No1Mk1 picked up on the Somme. The barrel is bent at an angle and the wood is gone. I don't think the poor bugger or the rifle he was holding survived the shell that bent that barrel.
By the way, the safety is on and I assume there is still one up the spout. The bolt is NEVER going to open in the condition it is in. I have seen pics of stacks of rifles recovered after one of the many "Big Pushes" What could be salvaged was reissued. Just another reason that one cannoot find out the history of any rifle.

Love those Swedes!

Like a very famous climber already said about climbing mountains: "Because they are there!".
Swedish Mausers are great and beautiful firearms and are the only ####-on-closing Mausers I know of. Two good reasons to love them.
So, please, don't ask me why I collect Mosins...

My 1895 Chilean cocks on closing and so does my Turk 1893. I think all of the pre 98 variants were #### on closing.

I bought a 1905 CG M96 about a year ago.
It's in really good shape , matching #'s except the front band , surgically accurate and it fit's in great with my small mil-surp collection.
.....cool bayo too
