Why does Colt 6920 cost a premium?

IMO, any AR over 2000.00 is pretty much a cash grab for the big manufactures, $3000.00-4000.00 priced AR's is pretty much insane, they do very little more if anything at all compared to a 1000.00 AR. You are paying for the big name and all the feel good hype associated to it, if you have the $$$ and need the image then fill your boots of course lol.

I would bet that the Norinco CQA is Canada's top selling AR and will be for some time although prices seem to be dropping on US made AR's lately

Not completely true, The top end AR's come with better coatings, better machining, better accessories like stocks and forends, lower friction internal coatings and sometimes nickel boron which is pretty much self lubricating, and usually much better trigger groups. These features cost more money and create a more reliable rifle.

I'm not sure that they are worth that much more but they are worth more than a Norinco or other $1000 or less AR.

I'm seeing a Colt LE6920 for sale at $1,649.99 brand new with a Magpul PMag and back MBUS on a vendor's website from Barrie... Sounds reasonable to me?

I can tell you having owned one that there's no big whoop compared to an ATR or high end Dlask. Just a fading love affair as the Colt had the US military contract before the Bushy's I suspect. Quality wise there's nada for difference.

I can't for the life of me figure out why a Colt 6920 with basic plastic handguard could cost so much. The price is close to a KAC SR15 which has:

Top tier handguard
one of the better match trigger
extremely nice BUIS
LMT SOPMOD buttstock
Lower is ambi with sling attachment
E3 BCG system(debatable but still a plus).

ETC ETC ETC

Anybody?

Because they can ... and, Colt is the standard by which others are judged.

Drop by our store.

We have AR's from priced at $850 and $4500 and everything in between in stock.

I'd be happy to let any one compare them.

For the same reason people will pay more for Heinz VS President's Choice... Colt has heritage, and years of R&D invested in their product that has been knocked-off, endlessly. Now, why do Canadian retailers gauge the customer who wants a certain brand? Well, that's another thread... But, if people stopped buying em', the price would be forced down.

The funny thing is that many Colts, rifles and handguns, are treated as safe queens. It's like people are afraid that they will break, they seem to be bought mainly by collectors not shooters. That is why my collection is pretty much purged of Colt products, if you can't or shouldn't shoot it I don't want it.

Well, I have a 100 year-old 1911 that I ain't shootin' too frequently... If you have the cash, buy whatever the heck you want. If you have an RPAL, you are a "grown-up", and grown ups are capable if making their own decisions.

I do think it's rotten that Canadian businesses are selling Colts at such a premium, but it contributes to their scarcity and value. If Colt Canada opened up their floodgates and started selling to the public, Diemaco/Colt parts would lose all their value... Now, where's the fun in that?!

not trying to start crap here but after my 3rd AR buy this year, a Colt, LE version. It does feel like business are trying to get rich off of every single sale. You buy a $2000 AR and after a few extras and a optic then the tax.....DAMN. But what do i know. I do love my AR 15's. Also After dropping that kind of money on a rifle there should be some free swag, a tshirt or a damn hat. The only swag i got was from my BCM purchase from One Shot Tactical. 2 videos, hat, 7 stickers, 6 posters, that was pretty cool.
