Why does everyone give the axis a hard time?

Aww Bradley, git a bigg'un flat biller's capella and spin it awn bassackwards.
Undew yer belt kupple nawtches and unclastp the button above the zeeper.
Hawller............Yoe-Broe and them Azzxi's will looky better....................................

Nah Looky I think I used to sell those guys 10/22's only.

They also like Brads fav gun- the sks.

If the best thing about a gun is that it "shoots every time you pull the trigger" then you must be really impressed by a lot of things in life.

Some of my guns are works of art, others like the Axis are butt-ugly. Expensive or cheap, they are tools and must function every time. A cheaply-made non-functioning firearm is useless and a liability. If the Axis detractors wish to point out it's shortcomings, functionality is primarily not one them.

A gun that does not shoot is broken regardless of the brand.

If your standard for "functionality" is that low it is okay; it's your standard. It is not mine.

Did yours not come from the store incapable of feeding?.... I would consider that pretty non functional.......

Some of my varied assortment of average hunting centerfire rifles are, Browning BLR and BAR's, winchester model 100's, 70's and 94's, remington model 700's, 788's, 760's and a 783, savage model 12's, 110's, 10's and an AXIS.

To be totally honest when using the Axis for hunting I've never once thought or noticed it as being a sub quality product to any of the others.

I will add that I like to tinker with my guns, very few haven't at least had a trigger tweak done to them. My one and only lonely AXIS is a Stainless chambered in 7mm-08 and sits in a Boyds laminate stock with a Timney trigger....I've got nothing negative to say about this gun, plain and simple it works and works just fine. I like it! :)

Gun enthusiasm takes on many different roles with varied values and opinions, some enthusiasts are more open minded to diversity in product than others.

If a person wants to talk about smooth actions in a hunting rifle I'll add that the Browning BAR and Winchester 100 are the best....They are so SMOOTH that you don't even notice working them! :)

If you can't see the shortcomings in an Axis even for the price, then it's hard to believe you have much experience outside of owning an Axis....
Would be my counter argument to the "snob" claim lol.

Faulty magazine that was replaced free-of-charge by the company delivered to my door within 10 days, pretty good CS IMO. My buddy's near-2K Benelli was malfunctioning out of the box and it took Stoeger longer than that to fix it for him.

My BIL has a long country driveway that frequently gets snow-packed. Years ago, my hunting buddy was trashing his 1985 Jeep Wagoneer because it didn't pass the safety and was a rustbucket. He sold the BIL the truck for $300 and found a Kijiji plow for another $300, now he doesn't have to wait each morning for the plow-guy to come late and miss his work. Truck is a POS but starts every time, he would probably be served better by a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, way nicer interior more torque and no drafts but for the amount of times he uses it the 85 is just fine.

No doubt Yorgi..... And the axis has its place..... But that's where it belongs,, in its place.....

I doubt your brother would invest in chrome wheels and pushbars for his rusted jeep (think Boyd's stocks and trigger kits), and he probably doesn't go on a 4x4 forum bragging up how great his jeep is and how other who pay more for theirs are "snobs"....

As for customer service, that's great that they stood behind their product, but the best warranty is always one you don't have to use IMOP....

Buying a 400 dollar axis, slapping on a 250 stock and a 100 trigger is the hunting rifle equivalent of the tapcoed sks. Instead of wasting that money on a disposable rifle, a guy on into the EE and buy a lifetime rifle worth passing down a generation.
Different strokes. The gun show I attended yesterday had a heavy barreled remington 700 in 243 with a new Redfield scope that would have cost less than the upgraded axis, while being a better rifle with significantly more resell value and better optics.

You sir, have won the thread.

And somehow back in the days of fbook gun trading both were worth more than a vanguard or tikka...

My stainless Axis cost less than 300, my Boyds cost 100, my timney was 125....for around the 500 mark its a nice gun and I also got the enjoyment of tinkering with it. :)

The Boyds is now worth 200, the Timney is worth 150, and the Axis is still worth 300.... Gotta like that for an investment on a "rusted Jeep".

You are absolutely correct, I'm content and not spending another dime on it, it's attraction was solely the price. Hopefully, I won't get stung by this reasoning, like the time I went on a trip to Thailand... :)

Edited to add: To appreciate good quality and fine workmanship does not make one a snob, there's plenty of fine and ugly-workhorse guns around and the common denominator is that I'm always in need of another one...

Just saw a used skull camo Axis complete w/pos factory scope in 22-250 at a gun show.

$675.......yup $675.

Maybe I am missing something, the guy said she's a real shooter and worth every penny..... Lol

I looked at one in 22-250, the mag fell out hit the floor and broke. Now it was -30 on avg last year do you think that plastic would have survived one wolf hunt?

We have differing opinions on what worth is. In my estimation, it's a $250 gun, it's a used axis after all. Like fancy rims on a beater, the animal underneath is still lacking.

And like I said earlier, my wife owns one, it does he job for her. But let's not start comparing it to my gustafs that only cost me a little more on the used market.
