my wife is a shooter too, she has her own guns. I am hoping to involve her in this sport cause it looks like fun. she is a natural shooter unlike her spouse.

But I can see that for you skinny guys, a vest might be more comfortable. The bottom line is that although you don't NEED a vest, it might be the most handy, the most comfortable or the fastest foy YOU. And YOU are the only one that matters.

I tried a cheap vest and did not care for it. It seemed to be size medium. I am not.
